PM at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street in the Conference Room
Present: Charlie Langham, Chairman; Vann Saltz, Jim Godfrey, Bob Callahan, Larry
Thomas, Trisha McMahon, Sherry Sullivan. Eddie Boyett, Recreation Director, Mike
Ford, Council Liaison, Betty Rivenbark, Secretary Absent: John Baker
The minutes of the July 17th meeting were duly approved on motion by Trisha
McMahon, 2"d by Jim Godfrey and unanimously carried.
Eddie in making his report said that he wanted to report that his department did not go
over budget last. Everyone congratulated him.
Under old business he reported that he, Charlie, and Scotty Wilson met with the
volleyball people and have new people involved. He said Dora and her husband are
still involved but they have set up an account that requires two signatures and are on
the right road, set it up the way it should be.
He said Youth Football wide open. He said they will play at Stimpson Field. Soccer is
wide open, Fall Baseball signup is being held. He said the 25 second clocks should be
in this week. He has talked to Charlie Stephens and is trying to get them in, can't figure
out what the hold up is as we signed the contract months ago. He said the pool is
winding down.
In the Budget he said he has put in for resurfacing the tennis courts. The redoing of
the dressing rooms at Volanta has been put on hold, we could not get them ready for
this year so we are shooting for next year.
He talked about the booster club taking down the fences in the football stand and just
putting in a big yellow stripe from the top of the stadium down. He said they put in
$6800 last year on the sound system but has been approached by someone who
wanted to work on it. He said he would let them look at it to see if it needs anything
else. He said in the electric department budget there is six 90 ft. poles for the baseball
field. There was further discussion on this and this to take care of plans that should
have been done this year but didn't get ordered by Aaron as promised.
The new pool was talked about and he reported Watermark Design has been hired as
the architect and Thompson Engineering will be working as engineer. He said from the
drawings you could see that you could race N/S 50 meters or E/W 75 meters. The pool
will be heated. They will have fans and open in summers. Larry Thomas said he was
concerned about chemicals and metal buildings. Eddie told him there will be no
chlorine in the pool we will use ultraviolet light. Everybody was thrilled with what
planned. The skateboard park was talked about and Eddie said he thought we could
do it with the money allowed. Have a 7,000 sq ft skate park.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned at 7.35 pm.
