Eddie, in giving a report on programs, said the Founders Park was coming along fine. That the fence has been put all around the property and looks good. That the have been spraying. He said he has talked with the soccer people and they said they could wait to mid -September to get on the fields which will be good. That will give us 30 extra days growing. He said they pre -fertilized and sanded and post -fertilized. He said Tim said they plan to dress up the entrance later, after the season is started and things quiet down. He said he has gotten an inquiry about a co-ed softball league, but he told them they were going to have to wait and see what soccer did, probably in mid -September. He will follow up on that. He said the swimming pool has done well. That the money to fix it up really made a difference and that the water has looked good. They had a big meet out there last weekend, 800 people, and had the awards ceremony in the gym afterwards, that everything went well except for the weather. That next week is the last full week and then open on weekends until Labor Day. He reported that he had been contacted about a lady who fell last year at the stadium when her heel got caught in a crack and is suing for $7,000. He was just reporting this in case we hear about it. He said that he has inspected and is planning to fill in all the cracks they found. He mentioned that we are still going to have to keep in mind that Volanta stadium is starting to need some major maintenance. He reported youth football sign up that is going on at Volanta and that it is not the group that came before us, sanctioned by us, that this could present problems down the road. He said he felt like we did not need two leagues, dual sign ups. All agreed this might become a problem and we will have to deal with it. That the fact remains that this other league cannot use our fields unless and until they provide insurance papers and come before the board and are scheduled. Mike asked if there was a place for them to play and Eddie said that remains to be seen. Depends on soccer. Eddie went on to say that Joe Sharp had told him that youth football would be playing at the high school. Eddie said he has not gotten any schedules from anyone. Eddie also re d he has been called by Don Dolan, who is trying to elect soccer teams together, and asked about playing in Fairhope. At this time he does not think they have them finalized yet. The status of the grant money was talked about and no one had anything further to offer as to what is going on. That information was provided to Debbie Quinn but no one has heard back. Mike Ford said she has not brought anything to the council for consideration. Bob Callahan brought up at this time a request from the Booster Club to be allowed to place a Conoco sign on top of the new concession stands at the stadium. He said Gary Cox had told him he would donate $1500 to the Booster Club if he was allowed to do this and this would be a big boost in funds for them. This was discussed at length, pro and con, and further discussion led to Bob withdrawing his request. There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
