City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street at 6:30PM
Present: Charlie Langham, Chairman; members Trisha McMahon, Larry
Thomas, Jim Godfrey. Phil Rutherford, Facilities Director and Betty Rivenbark,
Secretary
The minutes of the May 17"' meeting were approved as written on motion by Jim
Godfrey, 2"d by Trisha McMahon and unanimously carried.
The bills were considered and approved on motion by Larry Thomas, 2"d by Jim
Godfrey and unanimously carried.
Under old business, Charlie mentioned that Founders is looking great, the sprinkler
system is being put in and the lights will be put in August to allow the grass some time
to grow, come September it will be ready for play.
He said the swimming pool is doing well. It was re ported that we have received over
$5,000 from the pool already since opening in May.
Jim Godfrey told of his meeting with Ms. Thomas, principal of the Middle School,
wherein they discussed moving the youth football to the old stadium there. He said he
had also talked to Coach Barry and that he said at the most we were only talking about
8 games. Jim said looking at the field he thought that we would have to do a lot of work
and he thought the expense we might undertake would not be worth moving them there
for just 8 games. He also mentioned that Ms. Thomas did not feel that the parking was
adequate and she did not wish to encourage people being there on the weekends
because of vandalism. Discussion led to decision that it would not be worth the hard
feelings it might cause if we tried to do this now, let them stay where they are.
Mike Ford told of attending meeting about the possibility of the City receiving a grant
for the new high school field if the City would take over the upkeep for 99 years. No
decision was made for/against, it was just discussed pros/cons.
Trisha brought up the condition of the grounds and bathrooms at Volanta on two
separate occasions she was out there. Also, that trash cans were overflowing. She
asked how we could remedy this. It was pointed out that it is the league's
responsibility to clean up after their games but this does not seem to be being passed
on to individual teams. Charlie said he is going out there tonight so he will look over
situation and see what we might can do, see if it is our workers or the associations not
doing what they are supposed to do. Mike Ford mentioned that we need to put
recycling cans where they are more visible, be used better.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
