HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-17-2000 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met Wednesday, May 17, 2000 at 5:OOPM at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street Present: Charlie Langham, Chairman; members Jim Godfrey. Eddie Boyett, Recreation Director, Phil Rutherford, Facilities Director, Mike Ford, Council Liaison, Betty Rivenbark, Secretary The minutes of the March meeting were duly approved on motion by Jim Godfrey, 2nd by Charlie Langham and unanimously carried. The bills were considered and approved for payment on motion by Jim Godfrey, 2"d by Charlie Langham and unanimously carried. As has been our practice, Charlie turned the meeting over to Eddie who reported that we had gotten the pool repaired, that he and Phil finally convinced the Mayor of the need for some big repairs and he approved the expense necessary to get it repaired. He told of the work that they had to do. That the pumps have been repaired and leaks fixed. That the man never showed up that was supposed to do the repair work but that he and his men got down in the pool and scraped and power washed and then Larry put the paint on but it will officially open Friday. On Founders Park he said that he and Tim met with the Mayor and told him what we would have to do to get it ready for soccer play in the fall. He called Aaron and Dan and since then they have been working regularly. That they have 4 fields formed up, and are putting the irrigation in. That since everybody has gotten involved it is going a lot faster, they have ordered the bleachers, gotten an estimate on grass, that we do need rain. The retention pond was talked about and they said that they are going to grass it but they don't want it to hold water. They talked about having to fence whole area to keep the kids off so they won't vandalize things. He reported that baseball and softball are going strong. Jim asked if we resolved the youth football issue about them playing at the Middle School. Eddie said we have not heard from anyone but we did tell them at the school that the Middle School team will be playing on the Middle School field. There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
