6:30PM at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street
Present: Charles Langham, Chairman; members Rae Jackson, Vann Saltz, Larry
Thomas, Jim Godfrey; Mike Ford, Council Liaison, Eddie Boyett, Recreation
Director, Phil Rutherford, Facilities Director and Betty Rivenbark, Secretary
The minutes from the February 16, 2000 meeting were duly approved as written on
motion by Larry Thomas, 2"d by Jim Godfrey and unanimously carried.
The bills were considered and approved for payment as money becomes available on
motion by Larry Thomas, 2"d by Jim Godfrey and unanimously carried.
Charlie turned the meeting over to Eddie who reported on the different projects going
on: He said that he has resolved the Stimpson Field issue about Vaughan Kelly and his
tournaments. That they are trying to get Stimpson Field back and running again, the
fields need a lot of work but they are working on them. He said Founders is coming
along. They are working on the soccer fields, pouring concrete today. At Volanta - that
the walkway is finished and sodded. That they have gotten new nets. He said the
youth baseball has been doing a lot of work out there and also painted the concession
stand. He voiced his appreciation to all of them and asked Vann and Jim to convey
that.
He said our biggest problem is the swimming pool. He went over the different problems
we have out there and what we need to do to get in compliance with the health
department before opening. He understands that the Mayor when told what we needed
to get done said get it fixed. He reported he has called and asked pool people to come
and give him a price on repair. Tim's crew will be able to work on the concrete
problems. When asked when the pool would open? he replied first weekend in May is
projected date.
He reported that our top dresser is broken and that it will take $975 to get it fixed. He
asked Mike Ford to request enough money to pay for the bill when it comes in, and the
board agreed we needed to also ask for enough to cover the shortage we have in
paying bills for the month.
When asked if the soccer fields would be ready for fall season at Founders he said that
they should be. He was asked if all be lighted and said that he knows there are plans
to light 4 fields.
Mike asked if anything more is being done about using the Middle School for youth
football and response was that it is a dead issue right now.
Larry Thomas told that Mike Baugh had called and thanked him for what the board had
done in addressing the issues he had brought up about Stimpson. He just wanted to
pass that on.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
