HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-16-2000 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met Wednesday, February 16, 2000 at
6:OOPM at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street.
Present: Charlie Langham, Chairman; members Rae Jackson, Trisha McMahon,
Jim Godfrey, Vann Saltz, Bob Callahan. Eddie Boyett, Recreation Director, Phil
Rutherford, Facilities Director, Betty Rivenbark, Secretary
The minutes were approved with one correction noted on motion by Jim Godfrey, 2"d by
Rae Jackson and unanimously carried.
The bills were considered and a motion was made by Bob Callahan to table bills until
funds are available for payment. Trisha McMahon 2"d and motion carried unanimously.
Eddie talked about old/new business. He said he had worked everything out with Tony
Caminiti. That the scoreboards had been checked and are fine. He talked with Kim
Neisman about the co-ed league and that worked out too. He reported that the asphalt
at the Volanta park finished - 8 ft. wide. He said we could wait a couple of months then
sod. He reported that youth baseball has requested to expand the side of the bullpen
area. It was reported that the new reel mower has been approved and ordered. He
talked about Founders Park and the changes that we are going to have to do there. He
said he has been talking with Johnny Baker. That the changes were do to drainage
and potential drainage problems. He told of the layout now planned. Bob asked if
fields will be lighted. Eddie responded we still plan to build seven fields and he wasn't
sure if bond money covered lighting all of them. The swimming pool was talked about
and the bad condition it is in. Eddie reported that this year we will have to be certified
by Baldwin County before it is opened. All agreed that we have been putting "band
aids" on for a long time. May now have to do major repair or close it. The opening date
was stated as May l'. He said he is just bringing all this to the board's attention so
they will understand what necessary to keep the pool running. He reported that girls
softball has already started, JV and high school started also.
Charlie said he plans to come and talk to the Mayor. There are several issues that we
need to address and lack of funds is one of them. Way to get more revenue for
Recreation Board. All agreed that we still have the best facilities in Baldwin County,
better than anyone else.
Stimpson Field policy was discussed. Eddie and Charlie had gotten together and
reworked it to address problems we are having, especially with tournament play.
A copy was provided to each board member. (Copy in file) Bob suggested stronger
wording in the fee portion, change it to say... Fee deposit for each tournament is due at
time of booking and is not refundable less than 30 days prior to scheduled event. The
fees were doubled to $200 Friday use, $400 Saturday use, $200 Sunday use or ($800
for weekend. A $200 deposit required for each booking date. He further put into a
motion to add this wording, Rae Jackson 2"d and motion carried unanimously.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
