Under old business the board discussed the two new concession stands that
they wished to build at the football field before the season starts this year.
Charlie Bassett had offered his services but after he was contacted it was
learned he could not do the engineering because of a technically. It was
discussed doing them the same as the Dixie Youth concession stands with no
storage space, two coolers with sliding doors.. Bob said he had a commitment
of $5,000 already for these, that if we could pay the rest he would be able to get
more next year. Phil asked if they wished the city to do these and they said just
pour the slabs. That they were sure they could volunteer workers to do the rest.
Phil reminded them of the park and that the soccer fields have not been built yet.
Eddie said he would get in touch with John Baker and see what could be worked
out. Also, the status of the reel mower was talked about and Phil said he is
getting ready to go out on bids on a lease purchase agreement. Not purchase.
Bob asked about the money that Coca -cola had promised and Eddie reported
that they wished to put it into park benches, fixtures, that as far as giving money
for the leagues they did commit to that. Eddie was encouraged to get a letter
from them.
The new park and a grand opening was talked about and Larry Thomas said he
would like to see something special held where the colony, the rec. board and
the council would all participate. All thought this a good idea. Phil reported we
are 30-45 days from being thru with construction. Let Eddie set the date. Eddie
said possibly the first game in April. Further discussion led to a motion by Bob
Callahan to have Larry and Rae get with civic groups, single tax officials, council
and plan appropriate ceremony for official opening of Founders Park. Charlie
Langham 2nd and motion carried unanimously.
Under new business, the schedule that Eddie had typed up about the gym usage
was discussed. All appreciated the effort(copy in file). It helps them to tell
people when they ask about programs. Eddie if anyone objected to him
purchasing a small fax machine. No one did and it was put in the form of a
motion by Charlie Langham, 2nd by Larry Thomas to purchase a reasonably
priced fax machine for the gym. Motion carried unanimously.
Bob reported on the request he had gotten from a group out of Mississippi
regarding using the Fairhope Stadium for the Alabama/Mississippi High School
Allstar game. He said they had asked about possibility of use for 4 hours a day,
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and the game being played on
Saturday the 3`d weekend in June. He said further that since initial contact they
had not gotten back with him. No one thought it would be a problem and if they
do contact him go ahead with it.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
