Rock Serle was present to talk again about the disc golf that they are proposing
to put at the Volanta Park. He passed out a drawing(in file) showing where they
wished the 18 hole course to be. He had worked with Eddie on getting the best
layout. It mostly showed on the outskirts of the park. He said he did not know
what to do at this point and was seeking advice. He suggested putting flags up
so the Board could go and look at what proposed. The board members thought
that would be a good idea and told him how much they appreciated his working
with us on this. He was told that Eddie would get back with him after the board
went out and looked at flags.
The minutes were approved as written on motion by Charlie Langham,
seconded by Larry Thomas and unanimously carried.
The bills were approved as presented with a hold put on the IPS bills until Eddie
can check it out. Trisha McMahon moved to pay the rest of the bills, Larry
Thomas seconded and motion carried unanimously.
Under old business Eddie reported that at the new complex the road has been
completed and Aaron has all the light poles up along the road on the south
boundary. Dan Boone is buried with work but hopefully get done in 3-4 weeks,
put in concrete culvert and 2000 ft of piping then we can form the fields.
Hopefully get it going for them to play in February. Possibly sod the outfield. He
was questioned about sodding as it might be more expensive than we can
afford. It was suggested we could put a coke trailer and port-o-potties and let
them have at it if we get that done.
The gym was reported on, Eddie said we have no shrubs, trees but they have
been promised to us. That the new sign is up. He said the youth baseball is
going to donate $12,000 to spend at the park that they would like to get concrete
bleachers, a canopy at an area by the high school field and get some crimson
stone. He reported on the sign and said it would cost $4500 and that he
possibly can get $2000 from softball, could we work on other donations?
He told about the sound system and his computer being stolen and that we got a
new sound system and his computer is ordered. The secretary was directed to
check the insurance regarding this.
f
He said indoor soccer is going on and youth basketball starting. He discussed
getting bleachers for the new gym. That he is going to get an estimate on
getting some wooden ones. He was told this should come out of capital fund.
He reported that the nets on the batting cages needed to be replaced that they
had lasted 4 years but now rotted.
He said Carolyn Baggerly is going to offer Jazzercise at the new gym in the
mornings and early afternoon. That he told her 70-30 split, we are not looking to
make money off of gym.

He talked about getting a new trailer for about $1800 that there is only one in
the city now that we can use to move soccer goals and that it was being used
recently when a soccer game was scheduled so we had to reschedule games.
That the recreation department really needs one of their own. He was told to
check with Mr. Taylor and see what he can come up with. He asked if he
couldn't find one could he get one and was told yes.
Mike Ford was asked if he talked with the Mayor about getting additional help
and source of revenue and he said he is still working on it.
Eddie said we are going to charge the leagues $2.00 per person to use the gym
and indoor soccer $5.00 per person.
Trisha asked about gymnastics and was told we are not considering this now.
All felt that some recognition should be given to the girls volleyball team and the
football team for their outstanding seasons. Mike said if Eddie gets something
to him he will be sure and mention in Council Meeting.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
