HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-08-2001 Regular MeetingThe Airport Board of the City of Fairhope met Monday, January 8, 2001 at 8:00AM in the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street. Present: Sue Mason, Chairman; members Khim Vira, Bill Payne, Mike Ford. Secretary Betty Rivenbark, Al Beech and Bing Miller of Teledyne. The minutes of July 2000 were considered and approved as written and presented. Sue reported on the bids we had received on the reroofing of the building at the airport. She said we had two responses, Diversified Coatings, 120,000 and Kemko, 89, 000. That Wayne Smith had studied the two and that Kemko met all specifications and she was recommending we accept it and pass on to Council for further action. They would replace the whole roof. She also told of an annual inspection fee of $400 that was on the bid and that she recommended we accept. Bing questioned the roofing tacks/nails that might be a problem. It was decided to require a magnetic sweep of the area with the bid package as well as a pre -conference construction meeting. A motion was made by Sue, 2"d by Khim Vira to recommend Council accept this bid to do the repair work at the airport. Motion carried unanimously. She said the work would be 4- 6 weeks 120 days. Bing asked if could be done in two phases, front and back of building. That they would be inconvenienced and have to move airplanes for this period of time. Sue said she would check into it. The pre -application submitted by Barge Waggoner on behalf of us to FAA was talked about and that since that time have received over 2,500,000.00 FAA grant which was put in appropriations bill by Senator Shelby. Sue said this is first down payment on new runway project and will be used for land purchase. That she anticipates no problems in the required studies- on drainage, environment, runway justification study. Bing asked what we would be ultimately asking for. Sue said new 100ft X 6600 ft runway parallel to what there now, old runway being a taxiway. Estimated time of completion would be 5-6 years. She reported on Tim Kant's and her trip to Montgomery for the airport conference and said they made good contacts and since then Dr. Eascher has come to Fairhope and visited with us and the airport and was very impressed. Bill Payne asked if we could call Floyd Childress to cut the grass. Sue said she would talk to the Mayor and ask this favor. There was no other business, meeting was duly adjourned.
