Section Street Present: Larry Thomas, Charlie Langham, Trisha McMahon, Mike Ford, Council Liaison and Betty Rivenbark, Secretary Eddie Tyler, Athletic Director of Fairhope High School was present tonight and said he was just here to thank the board for all that they have done in the past and let them know that he will work with them in any way he can in the future. That he has told them at the high school that he is here to stay, made a commitment not going anywhere. He told how is trying to build up the program, build on the good things in the past... and in turn the board told him all the good things they have heard about what he is trying to do. Larry told him that there have been no major changes since Eddie worked with the board - the best thing he can do is what he is doing..... communicate with us. That the recreation board's charge is to serve the youth of the community. Coach Tyler said that was his charge too, they want to stay in touch, work with us. Mike Ford said at this time he taiiced to Eddie about our manpower problem and possibly we could coordinate with Eddie in finishing the project we started at the high school. Ultimately it was suggested Eddie getting with Eddie Boyette about this work. Larry told him that the success of our programs in the past had been because of volunteer efforts and joint efforts with the city staff. Eddie said further that he would like to initiate some youth camps and will look forward to working with us. He was thanked for coming. A motion was made by Larry Thomas to pay the bills as presented, Charlie Langham seconded and motion carried unanimously. The minutes were approved as written on motion by Trisha McMahon and seconded by Charlie Langham. Under old business Mike Ford brought up the possible construction of the building for basketball that we had discussed for several meetings and that the site planned would be at the end of the minor league field in the woods trying to cut as few trees as necessary to get the project completed. He said he wanted to hear from the board, their ideas on this. The merits of having one court vs two courts was discussed as well as possible deletions of locker rooms - he said that we would need to get alternate bids on this. The board looked over the plans and discussed different places to build, suggesting possibly north of the pool. Mike said he just needed a motion authorizing him to go out on bids tonight. Larry Thomas moved and Trisha McMahon seconded to go out on bids on the recreation building with alternates and we will take another look at alternate site of putting the building north of the swimming pool with eye for possible expansion. No action was taken on the reported balls flying over the fence from major league field. Larry mentioned that John Pomeroy wished to host a soccer tournament, part in Daphne and part in Fairhope and he was told that he should get with Eddie. That all normal rules would apply. There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
