at 6:30 PM at the Fairhope City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street
Present: Richard Bass, Charlie Langham, Larry Thomas, Bob Callahan,
Rae Jackson, Mike Ford and Betty Rivenbark
The minutes of the May meeting were duly approved as written with correction
that it was Leslie Stejskal who attented meeting.
The bills were approved for payment on motion by Bob Callahan, seconded
by Larry Thomas and unanimously carried.
Under old business Larry Thomas reported on what he has been doing to get
the land secured. The land that he is trying to get approved is just east
of the high school tying into the high school land and that if donated it
will be done going into the "parks deed" and will be amount necessary
to build fields needed and possibly have some land left for pond area.
It is on Hwy 44 running south just to Manley Road. He said this has
already been presented to the FSTC board and it was tabled but will come
up again July 11th. Could be at least another 30 days if no opposition.
But he is working on it. All agreed it would not be ready for this season.
Bob reported that the Revelers camp is still a go, the baseball clinics have
been outstanding, had at least 40 kids a day for 3 weeks.
The basketball gym plan was discussed. Mike Ford had plans and talked to
the board members about what they wanted. They asked him to cut out the
locker rooms. He told them where it was planned for and they thought a
good idea. He was seeking the board's input before taking back to the counci
He was asked if this takes all our money to build what about the money for
the fields when it comes time to do those. He said he did not think this
would be a problem he will ask the Mayor. Bob Callahan said he wished
that Mike would ask the basketball parents, the people who are asking us
to do this, what they think. Mike asked if they thought good plan/conept
They said yes.
The board brought up problem that is occurring at major league field with
balls flying over fence, that we need to think about putting up something
to stop this from happening. No action was taken at this time.
