Present: Chairman Richard Bass; members Charlie Langham, Bob Callahan. Council Liaison Mike Ford and Secretary Betty Rivenbark Tony Caminiti was present and told of a tournament they wished to have on June 15, 1996. He said he had talked to Eddie about it and Eddie recommended he contact the girl's softball association to see what scheduled otherwise. He made the suggestion that only one person be involved in scheduling that he found it difficult to have to contact so many people when they wished to schedule tournaments. Bob Callahan mentioned that he needs to put the word out that soccer will start in August so don't plan any tournaments for then. Richard commented that as far as Eddie doing all the bookings... that he is understaffed now and with the schedule that he is keeping there is no way he can handle what Tony suggesting he should do. Bob said he believes Eddie does schedule weekend tournaments now. Tom Bierster of the Mobile Revelers was here to ask for a July soccer camp, 3 days, the 3rd week in July, 16, 17, 18th. He said they would do it in June but many of the players will be out of town and that the kids are still into baseball, has done them in the past in June but not good time. Bob asked him if any players were interested in doing a day camp, June -July for 1/2 a day. Tom said maybe. Bob told of the other baseball clinic planned. It was mentioned that it might be good to do soccer a week earlier. Tom said he would check on what Bob asking and give the secretary a call. Tom mentioned what great shape the fields are in, he said their attendance is somewhat down, said they are consistent but not big crowds. Jim Martin, Leon Hill, Larry Stejskal and another gentleman were present to talk about support for indoor basketball facility. Now that they are taking Faulkner gym away for summer program they wanted to know what our plans were for providing a place for the youth, especially the girls, to play basketball. Jim Martin said that 400 kids have been showing up for this program, 200 of them girls, that they got the armory but they don't have enough places now to play. Bob said that a short time ago they had a plan of a facility drawn up and took it to the city council. Mike Ford said the architect got it and by the time it got back it was way over what proposed, too expensive to build. Also he told how we were supposed to be joined with the seniors facility and that would not have worked. He said he has discussed with the Mayor putting up a building. All agreed that just a basic building would serve the purpose, nothing elaborate. The time it takes to make this a reality was discussed, all agreed we need indoor facility. The board talked further about the original drawing and it was agreed to get a copy and see what a basic building would cost, one of the gentlemen offered to take it and get prices. He said he would get it back to us as soon as he could. The minutes were considered and were approved as written. The bills were approved for payment on motion by Charlie Langham seconded by Bob Callahan. There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
