HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-20-1995 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met Wednesday, December 20, 1995 at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street at 6:30 PM Present: Chairman Richard Bass; members Larry Thomas, Bob Callahan, Charlie Langham. Facilities Director Phil Rutherford and Secretary Betty Rivenbark The minutes of the November 22, 1996 meeting were duly approved on motion by Larry Thomas, seconded by Bob Callahan with a change noted that Jerry said the baseball money went into the inside athletic account. Motion carried unanimously. The bills were looked at and approved for payment as money becomes available on motion by Larry Thomas, seconded by Charlie Langham and unanimously carried. Under old business Larry brought up that the FSTC had just acquired 192 acres of land starting at the new high school running south of HWY 44. They are prepared to give the city through the board 20-28 acres. That they will be meeting Thursday night. The only problem would be the utilities, we would like to have land where we can use the city utilities. Larry said this all should be done within 2 months. The board talked at length about the electric problems and what we would be facing. Larry said they might swap some land on Hwy 13 if so we would be on Fairhope's electricity. He said he would just like us to think about it and he will tell them we are interested. Charlie talked about possibly getting a new peanut field, said he talked to Eddie about where to put it. Also that we need more batting cages. It was suggested getting a price on batting cages. Bob mentioned that the baseball league is sending $1200 donation to go for batting cages. Further discussion followed on what we hope to do in the next five years. That we need to set a wish/priority list and get with the mayor and council with a sensible plan including numbers using the facilities and in the programs Bob said he had been to a meeting at the high school and that they had a problem in the soccer program no coaches, worked that out and then they had no place to play. He asked if we could possibly put them next to where the band practices. He said he talked to Eddie and he said we could level this area out with sand and grass cuttings, have a second practice field. The more they talked the more it became clear that this would have to be dug out, leveled and then put sand and seed on it. This to be looked at further to see what needs to be done. There being no further business meeting was duly adjourned.
