HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-26-1995 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met Wednesday, July 26, 1995
at 6:30 p.m. at the City Administration Building, 161 North Section Street.
Present: Chairman Richard Bass; members Rae Jackson, Charlie Langham,
Trisha McMahon, Larry Thomas, Bob Callahan. Facilities Director
Phil Rutherford, Council Liaison Mike Ford and Acting Secretary
Geniece Watkins. Betty Rivenbark was absent.
There being a quorum present, Mr. Bass called the meeting to order. Minutes of the
21 June 1995 meeting were duly approved on motion by Charlie Langham seconded by
Trisha McMahon and unanimously carried.
The bills were approved for payment on motion by Larry Thomas seconded by Charlie Langham
and unanimously approved.
Under old business, Mike Ford stated that the lease between the City and Young Street
Recreation Center, Inc., has been assign to LESLIE E. ODOM, JR., with all rights, titles, and
interests in said lease. The lease will expire on 31 August 1995. He also mentioned there might
be some changes in the lease term at that time.
Larry Thomas asked if the financial reports could be provided to the Board for the Recreation
account, and the Recreation Improvement account. Mike Ford has been asked to check on
these reports.
Charlie Langham asked Phil and Mike about the board's request for two more recreation
employees. Both stated that this has been brought to the Mayor's attention.
Under new business, Phil Rutherford asked the board to consider helping to build a new
concession stand. The current concession stand and score building are inadequate.
The Police Chief, Jerry Anderson and others have offered to help in the building of the new
concession stand. Their plans are to take the existing two store score building, extend it and build
a new concession stand under the score building. The existing concession stand would then be
used for storage. Phil stated that the Recreation Department would only be responsible for the
lumber and the labor would be free. A roughly estimated cost for the lumber is $10,000.00.
The board asked if Phil would provide a complete plan of the new construction and an accurate
cost for the lumber before committing.
Richard Bass expressed that he would write a letter to Steve Sloan thanking him for his hard work
on the Volanta Ball Park's roof over the BBQ grill, and the Minor League Field projects.
Bob Callahan asked if he could use the Stimpson Field for soccer starting 14 August 1995.
The Board approved.
Trisha McMahon stated that Fairhope Swim Team is doing an excellent job, and would probably
win the City Meet again this year. This will be their 5th consecutive winnings. Mike suggests
that part of the swim team be reconciled by the Mayor for a job well done.
There being no other business, meeting was duly adjourned at 7.30 p.m..
