HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-18-1995 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met Wednesday, January 18, 1995 at 6:30 PM at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street Present: Chairman Richard Bass; members Rae Jackson, Charlie Langham, Bob Callahan, Larry Thomas, Trisha McMahon The minutes of the December 14, 1994 meeting were duly approved on motion by Larry Thomas, seconded by Trisha McMahon and unanimously carried. The bills were approved on motion by Charlie Langham, seconded by Larry Thomas and unanimously carried. Carol Stickney was here representing the band parents. She told of how the band was responsible for raising their own funds for uniforms and instruments had to be furnished by the parents. She said in the past they had many projects where they sold door to door as did many other groups with school children and that they were looking for a way to raise money without having to hit on parents like they have to do in the past. She had come up with an idea of selling signs to corporations and have them put up at the football stadium when they had games. She said they had seen them in Foley and at Daphne. She was here to propose -'doing this and wanted to see what the board thought about it. She said they would be professionally done. She said in all there would be 10 signs. Bob Callahan asked her what uniforms cost and she said $40,000 and they are 5 years old now. She said they would sell the signs at $1,000 ea, be ten at a time with 1 being placed on the director's stand. Further discussion led to the board telling Carol they wished to discuss it more. She thanked the board for their consideration and left. After she left the board decided that she should= get with Eddie and talk further about the project. It was tabled until the next meeting. The board talked about the letter(in file) that Eddie had written informing the men's church league that we would only be able to handle Fairhope and Fairhope school zone league this year. Bob asked for guidance 13-15 year old Babe Ruth League, they were getting ready to register. Discussion led to a motion by Charlie Langham that we adhere to keeping the boundaries to the Fairhope school district, Larry Thomas seconded and motion carried unanimousl, Larry Thomas reported that an offer had been made on the land we talked about at the last meeting and it was not accepted and now they are talking about another piece of property, he was not at liberty to say where, but it has not been forgotten. Richard said he had some inquiries about the girl's softball program and that he hoped Eddie had been able to get the information that we had requested from them(roster -and financial statement). Eddie said he had requested this but had so far had not received it. In event he will get back with her. The board talked about the new fields and the lighting of same, adding more mounds and another batting cage. They also talked about the good crowd that had been there for the Senior Bowl practice. There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
