at 6:30 PM at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street
Present: Chairman Richard Bass; members Charlie Langham, Rae Jackson,
Larry Thomas, Stanley Fant, Bob Callahan. Council Liaison Mike
Ford, Recreation Director Eddie Boyett and Secretary Betty Rivenbar
The minutes were duly approved as written on motion by Charlie Langham
seconded by Larry Thomas and unanimously carried.
The bills were approved as presented on motion by Larry Thomas, seconded
by Charlie Langham and unanimously carried.
Under old business Eddie reported on the NAIA tournament, that everything
is back on track with the Booster Club doing the concessions. Larry Thomas
said he had a meeting with Allen Geist and Henry Pappa and felt like every-
thing is back on track that Bob had planned the opening ceremonies. Bob
reported that there will be 12 so c r games at the stadium from Nov. 21-24
soccer. league had bought $2;-000.,� or 'sale in Fairhope. They, reported that
everyone speaks highly of our field and our staff.
The budget was considered and on motion by Stanley Fant, seconded by Larry
Thomas was adopted as presented for fiscal year 94-95.
The lease with the school was talked about and it was decided to wait and see
what Mike had to present to the board before discussing it further. Mike
told that he, Larry and Bob had been out and looked at 3 different parcels,
Buddy Gabel's some -44 acres off of Fairhope Avenue, Holmberg's off of Thompsc
Hall Road and also Mr. Maradik's land off of Bishop/Troyer Road. Ideally
Gabel's would be best location . All realize that the situation is getting critical.
We are running out of fields. Mike Ford said he will call the mayor and talk
further about this.
The contract with Coca Cola was talked about. We had gotten a letter from
Buffalo Rock/Pepsi and they wished to be considered when we do enter into
a contract again. Richard said he will reply to the letter.
We had also gotten a letter from Mike Baugh complaining about the trash
problem at Stimpson Field. He was asking for some relief as he has picked
up the trash there for several years and was hoping we as a board could
do something. Richard said he will also reply to that letter.
Charlie asked the board to think about needing to add on to the press box
at the stadium. Also, do we need to think about making the reserve seat
section smaller.
Eddie reported that they have formed a Fairhope Youth Basketball League
they have split with Daphne. He told of all the peoplb working in the group
and that they think it will work well.
He reported on the money we had made on the Spring Hill soccer game -$679
and that it went well.
Bob Callahan reported on the indoor soccer league they are now forming and
that he thinks he has everything worked out.
Eddie said they will be having the youth basketball clinic as before and
having the Christmas arts & craft on December 17th at Faulkner. He also said
they are replacing some goals that needed it at Faulkner.
Larry reported that Buddy Richmond is getting an artist rendering on the
new recreation/senior citizens center.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
