HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-22-1994 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met Wednesday, June 22, 1994 at 6:30 p.m. at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street. Present: Chairman Richard Bass, members Larry Thomas, Bob Callahan, Rae Jackson, Charlie Smith, Charlie Langham , Mike Ford Council Liaison, Eddie Boyett, Rec. Director and Betty Rivenbark,Se The mihutes of the May 18, 1994 meeting were considered and approved as written on Motion by Larry Thomas and Charlie Langham giving the second. The bile were considered and approved as presented. Under old business Eddie showed a drawing of where we would put the 3 softball fields at the new highschool field. Mike Ford asked if there were any boys fields planned and they said no, they can still use Volanta. That we desperately need more girls fields, we have 78 teams trying to use the fields we have. Richard said we need to get started. The board asked Mike to take to the council our request for approval of using $120,000. Once we get approval for using the money we can get the attorney working on the proper language. Charlie asked if we had gotten the insurance problem worked out, and we had. During discussion Bob Callahan brought up and moved that any league operatin in the city and using our fields turn in a roster to the city Recreation Dlrectoi including names, addresses and telephone numbers. Larry Thomas seconded and motion carried with Charlie Smith opposed. Under old business Bob Callahan reported on the NAIA tournament he said the) have formed a committee of 20 people to work on this and they meet the 1st Monday night in Mobile. Eddie said they had reworked the contract. Further discussion followed on the concession part of the agreement and what they hoped Fairhope would provide. Eddie said he would get with the Booster Club and make sure they understand what is expected and they need to provide. It was suggested that for the opening ceremony we have some floats. It was thought that this could be arranged. Eddie gave a report on the activities that are going on now at the park and said we have not had any more reports of problems with the basketball goals. Bob reported on the soccer camp that will be held July 11-15. He said they have money in the bank and will have new girls team this year, they will use same practice places. The proposed Recreation Center was talked about and what we wish to put in the building. From a survey the 3 things they asked for were, putt -putt video arcade and fast food, this out of 500 responses, also a room of their own Richard asked Charlie, Eddie and Larry to get together and have something to present at the next meeting, showing the area in the facility and the basic floor plan. Eddie went over the rest of his agenda, touching on the summer activities: baseball camps, soccer camps, tennis clinic, day camp and the arts 8 crafts camp planned the Ist week in August at the organic gym. There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned. Note* no meeting was held in July
