HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-17-1994 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met Wednesday, March 17, 1994 at 6:30 p.m. at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street Present: Richard Bass, Chairman; members Larry Thomas, Bob Callahan, Stanley Fant and Charlie Langham. Eddie Boyett, Recreation Director, Phil Rutherford, Facilities Director and Betty Rivenbark Secretary were also present. The minutes were considered and approved as written on motion by Larry Thomas, seconded by Charlie Langham and unanimously carried. The bills were approved on motion by Charlie Langham, seconded by Larry Thomas and unanimously carried. Under old business, Richard reported he had responded to the Mayor on his inquiry about the youth football. Eddie reported that the scoreboards are installed. Larry Thomas asked him to convey to his workers how good everything looks and what a good job they are doing keeping everything up. Eddie further reported that the fencing we discussed at the last meeting has been taken care of. Larry asked how the meeting with Vann & Tony went, Eddie said fine. The scheduling of Stimpson Field for ball games was discussed and Eddie said he would ask Mary if she wanted him to handle this, the board expressed opinion if we do not take it over this year that we would want to for sure by next year. Stanley mentioned again the parking on the grass that continues at Volanta after we've asked them repeatedly to stop. Different ways to handle this we discussed. Phil reported that we are working on the pool. That Leisure Pools had been over and we have bought $700 filter but need to change skimmers. Eddie reported we had also changed locks at the pool but kept room for swim team to put stuff if they wanted. He said he already had 6 nights rented. Eddie said he, Bob Callahan and Mike Ford met with guy from Mobile Col lege about NAIA soccer tournament and that they said they had no problems with concession, parking or rent but they had budgeted only $250 a day for a facility. Eddie told them this was negotiable. Bob said after talking they made the comment they might play over here l -2times then move championship game to Mobile College and he said he had a problem with this after we mould go all out to have people from medical community, physical therapists, notify merchants and provide place for them to have pig/corn roast, then they would move the main game away. That he thinks we should say all games here if we are going to do this. It was consensus that we should try to have it all here. The grant money from ADECA was discussed and it was decided we did want to file for it if we could get it to put in the fields at the new high school. Stanley Fant put in the form of a motion proceeding with trying to get grant money. Larry Thomas seconded and motion carried unanimously. Eddie said we are going to have a baseball clinic sponsored by the Optimist Club on April 2. Bob reported that the basketball goals are going to present a problem right now. Phil said they know it and are going to take them down but we are going to put 2 more by the tennis courts. Eddie thanked Larry for the computer. A bul.letin board outside his office was suggested to put planned program activities. Eddie talked briefly about having a separate girls basketball league and the problems we have with the basketball league now, possibly split Fairhope and Daphne. Charlie asked about getting a survey done, we need to do this can possibly get some more fields at Volanta. Eddie and Phil mentioned we needed a new mower and a 4 wheel drive. Further discussion led to Larry Thomas making a motion to ask Mike Ford to go to the Council and ask for a 4 wheel drive and lawnmower. Charlie Langham seconded and motion carried unanimously Bob Callahan moved due to the urgent need he moved to instruct Eddie to acquire 4 wheeler, Larry THomas seconded and motion carried unanimously.
