HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-10-2000 Regular MeetingThe Airport Board of the City of Fairhope met Monday, January 10, 2000 at B:OOAM at
the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street.
Present: Sue Mason, Chairman; members Jeanette Puckett, Mike Baugh, Kim Vira, Bill
Payne. Betty Rivenbark, Secretary
The minutes of the last meeting were looked at approved with 2 minor changes. A
financial statement was also given.
Steve Pearson presented a plan to the board to do a Special Fixed Base Operator
operation. He said he felt he met all the criteria. He has recently incorporated and
bought an aircraft, he has his business license and is giving lessons in Foley, Gulf
Shores and Mobile and would like to do flight training at the Fairhope Airport. He said
he has worked with Pete Douglas in the past for 8 years(who was also a FBO at our
airport). Sue explained how we have Federal Funds and that we have to meet their
standards. He was questioned how he was going to meet the adequate classroom
space to teach 10 students. He said he had talked with Brad Harris and that they said
he could use their office space. Sue questioned that this would be big enough as it
already houses 3 desks and chairs and she does not believe that extra space is
available. He said he would buy his fuel from Teledyne. When questioned about his
secondary instructor he was told he needed to provide more information. He was
thanked for his interest and told we would check out the information he provided, his
qualifications, get in touch with Brad Harris. He left a business card for us to contact
him. He was told if everything checked out this could possibly go before the council in
two weeks. After he left Sue asked the board what they thought. All said he seemed
okey if he checked out and met the minimum standards as set out. He would fill a need
and be an asset. Sue said she would call Brad and check him out, ask him to provide a
letter about office space. A motion was made by Bill Payne, seconded by Mike Baugh
to go ahead and take to council in 2 weeks if he meets minimum standards as required
and all credentials check out.
A report was given on Clark and that Tut said we need to do one more step. He
provided a financial statement but we seriously questioned accuracy as we know of
other assets that were not listed. In any event, Tut is suppose to be taking care of it.
Bill reported on airport maintenance. He said he thinks we need to get Barge
Waggoner to take a look at drainage. That there are still some leaks in the big hangar,
at the west end. The bird problem and how to handle was talked about. It was
concensus that it is Teledynes problem, they need to get rid of them. He said he has
talked further with the Mayor on getting the front building fixed, also, he sent a letter to
Tim and talked to Phil about fixing the T-hangars.
Sue reported that Mark Reed is not ready to sign the lease yet, but the ball is in their
court on this.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
