HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-15-1993 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met Wednesday, September 15, 1993 at 6:30 p.m. at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section St. Present: Chairman Richard Bass; members Stanley Fant, Charlie Langham Rae Jackson, Larry Thomas, Bob Callahan, Charlie Smith. Facilities Director Phil Rutherford and Secretary Betty Rivenbark Council Liaison Mike Ford was also present. The minutes of the Meeting of August 25, 1993 were duly approved on motion by Larry Thomas seconded by Stanley Fant and unanimously carried. The bills were approved on motion by Stanley Fant, seconded by Charlie Langham and unanimously carried. Richard read a request he had received from Fairhope Physical Therapy Services for use of a softball field. After discussion it was still unclear whether they wished to have a mens or ladies tournament. Richard said he will call and get more details before giving them a definite answer. We also had a request from Al Prine to have a fall baseball program with 9-10 year olds, 20+ kids using,•th6 minor league field during October -November on a Sunday afternoon. Bob said his basic concern would be insurance. Richard said they would need to sign some kind of release. The insurance issue was discussed and whether or not they would be charging the children. It was thought if they charge them they should not worry about uniforms but get insurance. They are not sanctioned and not a part of the league. Richard said he would call him back and get them to put together a proposal and bring it to him. It was agreed that the use of fields would not mean marking off just keeping them cut. The proposal from Baldwin County Fence Co. on the batting cage was discussec A cost of $2458 for one cage was quoted. Different batting cages in the area were discussed and it was the consensus that we were interested in two cages with concrete pad. Phil is to go back and get a price for this. Stanley Fant moved to table this until next regular meeting. Larry Thomas seconded and motion carried unanimously. A Sports Day for Fairhope Middle School October 23 was discussed. Vann Saltz had submitted a request for fields on that day with a scrimmage game being the last event in the stadium. Betty is to get with him on which field to use and coordinate with Robert events. Charlie said he would like to commend the soccer association for their wonderful opening day. He said what he experienced was wonderful. Richard mentioned that we need to think about budget and possibly discuss at October meeting. Richard said he hope to have some information for members at that time. At this time the three interviews were held for Recreation Director position and will be continued Saturday morning. There being no further business meeting was duly adjourned.
