them for him. He talked about how they would handle applications for em-

They were asked if this takes away from public swim and he said no. He
said that admission was $2.50 per child. He said swim practice would begin
May 17 and would be open to the public June 5. Phil relayed to him they
are trying to locate leak now and hope to have ready for use when he needs
it.
Israel Crocker came before the Board telling them of a baseball team they
have through the NABA with participants being 18-65 years of age and
would like to use Vo lanta Park for some of their games. Timothy-M. Deane
of the Mobile Bay League talked to the board showing them a brochure he
had that had been made up for the national adult baseball association and
which showed they had insurance up to $1,000,000 liability. The board
questioned whether or not this would be good, in Alabama. He went on to
say that it would be divided into two groups, 18-30 and 30- above. That
it would be competitive and recreational. The group would be called the
Fairhope Rebels. That they wished to use the high school field from May 16
thru October 24. That the games would be played on Sunday afternoon(2
games) and only home games would be played here. That they would like
to have 1 practice night and they would rake and drag the fields themselves.
He said there would be no night games at Fairhope and they would donate
up to $1,000 to Recration Board. Richard said that the use of the field
would not be a problem but coordinating the equipment usage might be.
Rodney said that all they would need are rakes. Phil said they could work
with them. It was emphasized that no alcohol is permitted on the premises.
They said that would be no problem as they don't allow it. He said that
the last team playing would be responsible for clean-up and he personally
will be by to check to see that clean-up is done. They were told we
would check on the insurance and call Israel Crocker back on use.
Nancy Hall was here tonight to talk to the board. She said she is the vice-
president of Fairhope First and they have been talking as an organization
about some projects. She is here tonight to see what the board thinks of
having a Silver Queen Corn Festival, recognizing the agricultural community.
She said she has talked with Floyd Childress and he was very encouraging.
That they would need a place to have it. Different dates were talked
about and July 3rd was a date that all decided would be a good date.
She was encouraged to get with the police and clear through the health
department. She said she would be gald to do that. She was told that the
space out by the pool area would be a good place to have it and she agreed.
She was to do some more calling and the secretary is to get back with her
about whether or not she needs to appear before the council with a request.
Mary Burtnett was here and said she had had two requests from Rohr and
Thomas Hospital to have family days and she needed to get the board's
feeling on charging them. Much discussion followed and it was finally put
in the form of a motion by Bob Callahan to allow the use of Stimpson Field
by these two groups for family days without charge pending proper clean-up.
Stanley Fant seconded and motion carried unanimously
The minutes were approved on motion by Bob Callahan seconded by Charlie
Langham and unanimously carried.
The bills were approved on motion by Stanley Fant seconded by Bob Callahan
and unanimously carried.
Under old business, Mike Ford brought back up the pool repair and the board
discussed with him what happened at the council meeting. He said he will
bring it up again.
Rae Jackson gave a report on what she wishes to do on May Day. She asked
Charlie to be there at 7:30 with a tank of helium and others that wished
to help could come.
Charlie said he wished to say that Opening Day of baseball was super. That
everything went well and he congratulated the city crews for getting it
looking so good.
Richard mentioned to the board his meeting with Mayor Nix and that he
emphasized to him we need to really concentrate on getting a Recreation Dlrecto .
The obvious problem being where would we get the money to pay one. The
possibility of taking half of his pay from the recreation funds and half from the
city was discussed. We would have to come up with a job description. Richard
said he felt we had to solve this problem before we could go forward.
Stanley brought up again the adult baseball league's request to use the field.
Phil said it would not work an undue burden on his men. Stanley moved to
allow use of field if liability insurance checks out. Charlie Langham seconded
motion and it carried unanimously.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
