20, 1993 at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street
at 6:30 p.m.
Present: Chairman Richard Bass; members Charlie Langham
Rae Jackson, Larry Thomas, Stanley Fant.
Facilities Director Phil Ruther, Secretary Betty
Rivenbark and Council Liaison Mike Ford
Thorn Thomas of the Eastern Shore Soccer Assoc. was present to tell the
Board how the soccer program had gone this season. He said they had 34
teams excluding Daphne. They had 530 kids from 5-15 with a couple from
Gulf Shores. The youth under 16 league had added 44 kids and they finished
11/15/92. He said they would like to use the same schedule next year and
will start September 11th. He said they would like to again have the Roy
Patton camp August 2 - 6, 1993 in the morning from 8-11:30. He said
the only thing they would need restroom access. He reported on how good
we had done in the Alabama Sports Festival and that they will sponsor about
5 teams again next year.
Katie LeBlanc was present to give a report on the Fall Drama- Program that
Merideth Portman put on. She had a play in November and used 21 children.
It was a 2 week program she held auditions and the children wrote the play.
They considered it a success and and would like to try and do the summer
program again this year.
The minutes of the December meeting were approved as written on motion by
Stanley Fant, seconded by Larry Thomas and unanimously carried.
Under old business the board discussed the golfing again. They decided to
leave everything as originally recommended. Stanley Fant made that into
a motion, seconded by Charlie Langham motion carried unanimously.
It was reported that a work day will be held this Saturday, January 23, 1993
if anyone wish to come out and help.
The basketball goals that were put up was talked about and great participation
that we have had. Charlie Langham moved to put up two more goals, Larry
Thomas 2nd and motion carried unanimously.
Phil was asked to check out all the lights at the ballfields before play started.
A request has come for a new sign at the high school field from Coca-Cola.
The board said they did not have a problem with a new sign but did want
them to come to the board with the proposal and give the final word on it.
Phil reported that Brooks Northan had quit and that we had hired Robert
Lipscomb to work in his place.
The charges set for Stimpson were discussed again and the secretary had
called around and gotten area costs and all felt we are very much in line
with what charged and that the costs should stay as set. That we should
use this schedule for at least a year and review it.
Charlie reported that baseball sign-up will be Feb. 20-27.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
