HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-15-1992 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met Wednesday, July 15, 1992 at 6:00 p.m. at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street Present: Members Rae Jackson, Charlie Langham, Larry Thomas Stanley Fant. Facilities Director Phil Rutherford, Secretary Betty Rivenbark and Council Liaison Mike Ford Phil McCarthy was present representing the Sr. Citizens group that wished to use the pool for exercises for seniors when the ESSA swim stops using it in August. Mr. McCarthy was asked how long they planned to use it and he said until it gets cold maybe October. He had a list of some 20 people. He was asked about life guards and said he would oversee what is going on. That they have a rule that no one can swim alone, you need at least two people. Said they would use it 5 days a week. They are using Elks club now, but not working out. He was told we would look into it and let him know something by August meeting. Minutes were approved by Larry Thomas seconded by Stanley Fant and unanimously carried. The bills were approved as presented by Rae Jackson seconded by Larry Thomas and unanimously carried. Under old business the board discussed with Phil the status of the building to house the equipment. Phil said they are waiting on them to pre-fab it. There was a 48 day time frame on bid. A discussion was also held as to where to put it and all felt that on the hill where discussed before was best place. Future locations for facilities and parks was discussed with the tremendous growth we are experiencing all thought it a good idea to consider getting another 20 acres for recreation facilities. Mike Ford said he would try to have something by next meeting. Larry Thomas mentioned that he is on the steering committee for 100th anniversary of city in 1994 and that we, too, ought to be thinking about what we could do to be involved in festivities. The high school games for the next year were discussed and a motion was made by Stanley Fant, seconded by Larry Thomas to bill the high school $300 for the 5 local games that will be played here for a total of $1500 for the 1992 season. The chairman Richard Bass has started teaching again and will not be able to make regular meeting date, the *2rd Thursday night was discussed as an alternate date for August and September. No one saw a problem with this. There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
