Richard recognized Katie LeBlanc who has talked with Rae about a summer
art & drama camp. She had a flyer that she had worked up and said that
she will be putting this on with Merideth Portman the week of August 3-7
at the civic center. She is trying to get 10 teachers and will be able to
handle 150 children. She said the drama portion will only accomodate 20.
She said the Courier will do an article next week and they will be charging
$15 but that will cover supplies. They will do pottery, paper maiche, silk
screen painting, masks, and wooden toys. She is going to be putting out
flyers and will hold registration next week. The Board told her everything
looked good to proceed. Art program is budgeted each year.
Linda Skooglund was here tonight. She gave a report up to June 1(in file)
and said she was present to hear what O'Neal Robinson had to say. (He
was not present yet) She presented the board with a plague from the
softball association and thanked them for all their help this year. While
she was waiting Mike Ford asked her about the co-ed league play and they
discussed the game that was played Tuesday night. Linda told • the board
that she had some tournaments coming up and that the girl's softball
board had said they did not wish to run the concession stand. She was
asking for direction. The Board informed her that the decision whether
or not to allow someone to use the concession stand was hers. That we
looked to her, as softball representative, to operate it and she could make
the determination if she wished to open it to someone or have them operate
off of a table outside. The board asked who was putting on the tournaments
and she said one was Charlie Smith.
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved on motion by Stanley
Fant, seconded by Charlie Langham and unanimously carried.
The bills were considered and Phil reported that the pool had been fixed
but we need to consider for next year re -painting. The Board said they
need to remember that when we work on the budget. A motion was made
by Larry Thomas, to pay the bills as presented. Stanley Fant seconded
and motion carried unanimously.
Under old business, Phil was asked how the pool was doing. Phil said
he had gotten several complaints, that there is not near enough public
time. Richard said we need to look at next year and adjust schedule
public time vs swim team time. Mike said he had requests for plants
for landscaping. Phil said he had taken 8 hibiscus out there for them
to plant at the entrance and told them that we do not have time to take
care of them or water them but they can. He said they promised to take
care of them. Rae asked if we needed to do anything about the public
swim time now. No action was taken.
O'Neal Robinson, ASA softball commissioner, came in at this time and talked
to -the board about using the Stimpson Field facility to put on 'tournaments.
He said he was coming tonight as he needed an answer in time to make
out schedules and get printed for next year. He explained his program
and 'what groups are involved. He has held several tournaments over here
this year. Larry told him that we are going to have to have a working
meeting on setting up perimeters, rules using complex, that we are under
pressure to not permit early registration on tournaments. Stanley asked if
they book early do they pay beforehand, they pay when tournament played.
Larry asked how tournament he was talking about he said about 6 from April
thru July. He was asked to come back at the September meeting, we should
have an answer for him by then, we will set up working meeting to help
set policies. He thanked the board and said he will get back with them.

had bought one. Phil reported that he had gotten a price on roofing and
