at 6:00 p.m. at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street
Present: Chairman Richard Bass; members Rae Jackson, Larry Thomas
Charlie Langham, Phil Rutherford, Facilities Director and Betty
Rivenbark, Secretary
There were several guests present tonight and Richard recognized the
ladies from the Eastern Shore Junior Auxiliary present, Ann Pearson and
Glenda Gravlee. Mrs. Pearson said that the auxiliary was made up of
about 60 ladies and they were wanting to inquire about the use of the
football field for a fund raiser in the conjunction w/arts & crafts next year.
She said they wished to have a family -type concert, use both sides of the
field and the refreshment area, but would not cook on the premises. Mrs.
Pearson was asked about the placement of the stage, what were her ex-
pectations on this. She said they wished to put something that would
utilize both sides of the field. She went on to say they would like to
know something by December 3. She was thanked for coming and told
that it would be discussed and someone would be in contact with her.
Thorn Thomas, president of the Eastern Shore Soccer Assn. was here tonight
in response to our letter sent to each of the organizations requesting a report
on their programs for the year. First,he thanked the Board for the facilities
and the upkeep and support of them. He said they had 33 teams made up of
youth from Spanish Fort to Point Clear. He said the only problems they had
experienced were with vandalism with the goals. He said the program is
over and that he wished to report the ice machine in the concession stand
needed fixing.
Trisha McMahon was here representing the ES.S.A. She said they had 175
children in the program. That they had to hold 3 practices and that they had
record numbers in the swimming lessons and record numbers at the pool.
She related the day care's that came and said they would not let them come
without scheduling. She said a daily record was kept but she did not have
that figure tonight. Rae asked that she at least get us a copy. She ques-
tioned if we knew if there was a pool capacity. That they had at times felt
it was overcrowded and would like some guidance. The Board told her that
if she brings us the input we can rule. They did say that closing one day
a week to let the pool rest was a help. The only complaint we imparted was
the lack of time that was allowed for open swim and that that needed to be
worked on. She was asked to come back in January. She had a repair list
(in file) of things that they would like to work on, one being the floor
continually peeling. She said they were looking atcarpet and would like to
experiment with it. She was told to go ahead and try, but it would still
have to be able to drain. The repaving of the parking lot was mentioned
and she was told that we are trying to do something about that. She asked
about the sign and was told that it was down so they could paint it and fix
it. She had a trophy that she wished to display at city hall.
Joe Faust was here from the American Heart Assn. to talk about using the
football field May 2nd for a benefit concert. He said he wished to use local
talent from the churches. He asked what we would expect from them. The
board told him we would have to get back with him, but he also needed to
bring us some specific information.
Tony Caminiti represented the men's softball association and passed out a
list of things that he felt needed to be done at Stimpson(list in file) before
next season. He went over them and the board thanked him for the suggest
and told him that we would work on them as we could.
The minutes and bills were approved on motion by Larry Thomas, seconded by
Charlie Langham and unanimously carried.
The board decided to have a work meeting December 9th on what rules and
regulations are for stadium and Stimpson Field so we can give answers to these
groups.
Charlie Langham made a motion to purchase another 15 ft, 10 row set of bleach
Larry Thomas seconded and motion carried unanimously.
The secretary reported on letters sent out. There being no further business
meeting was duly adjourned.
