HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-20-1991 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met Wednesday, February 20, 1991 at 6:00 p.m. at the City Administration Building 161 N. Section St. Present: Al Johnson, Chairman; members Charlie Langham and Larry Thomas. Phil Rutherford, Facilities Director, Betty Rivenbark, Secretary and Mike Ford, Council Liasion was also present Al recognized Terry Garner who was present tonight representing the Girls Softball Assoc. He said that they wished to present a $1,000 check to the recreation board for use in installation of a sprinkler system at Stimpson Field. A discussion followed by the board on responsibilities that they have as far as running the program, turning on the lights, opening and shutting the facilities. Phil said he would check to see if there are covers on the lights in the snack area, this is a new requirement that the health depart- ment has come up with. They were also asked that in scheduling tournaments that they receive the money and then bring it to city hall. Mr. Garner said he saw no problems with the things that were mentioned. He said that their opening day would be May 4th and they had some tents coming from Chris Myers and asked if there would be a problem in them using them. He was informed no, just be careful not to hit any of the pipes in the sprinkler system. He was told if he had any problems please let us know. Thorn Thomas was also present representing the Eastern Shore Soccer Assoc. He presented the board a $1500.00 donation, also for installation of the sprinkler system and the recent purchase of soccer goals. He was also informed that the best way to know what is going on is to put their own locks on when they are using the facility. The minutes were approved as written and the bills were considered and approved on motion by Larry Thomas, seconded by Charlie Langham with the exception of one from Star Upholstery. Motion carried unanimously. Under old business Al Johnson said he had talked to Rick Cleveland and since our last meeting he had been appointed high school coach but he indicated that he still wants to do the tennis program. A discussion was held on how we would handle this. The question was raised as to how much he would tie up the courts. It was suggested that he put together a program and then come to us with it and all agreed this was best way to do it. Al said he would talk to him. Phil reported on his search for lawnmower we wished to purchase and problems he is encountering. He also reported we are still pouring concrete and we have gotten the new bleachers in and set up. Al asked Phil to see about some of the lights that are out and he reported they were out there today but he thinks they are out of bulbs. He said Mr. Cooper had been out and done the fencing work as well as repaired some up on the football stadium. There being no further buisness meeting was duly adjourned.
