HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-14-1990 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met November 14, 1990 at 6:30 p.
at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street.
Present: Al Johnson, Rae Jackson, Charlie Langham, Richard Bass,
Larry Thomas. Phil Rutherford, Facilities Director and Betty
Rivenbark, Secretary
The minutes were approved with the addition that "at the discretion of the
Board the $500 fee could be waived."
Al discussed with the Board what had transpired prior to the Saturday request
for use of the field by the little league football teams. He had worked out
with Steve the $60 charge with them to be charged Robert's hours at time
and a half following the game. He said he had gotten pressure to let them
use the field. It was strongly suggested that they at least get with us before
they start their program to request use of a field, and that the high school
practice field would work out just fine for what they need.
The bills were discussed and were approved on motion by Charlie Langham,
seconded by Richard Bass and unanimously carried.
Under old business Larry Thomas said he would like to establish as a matter
of policy having people come to the Board, not try to handle these problems
over the telephone.
Phil reported that he was still working on getting people to bring over
lawnmowers for Robert to try out that we haven't settled on anything yet.
The best way is to try it out to see if it will do what we need it to do.
He said he has not had time to order the bleachers yet.
At this time the Board discussed a proposal they had received from Ron
Pelletier for doing some work at the Vo lanta ballpark on the Fairhope Baseball
field and 13-14 year old field(proposal in file). Charlie Langham, Richard Bass
and Al.Johnson had met out at the field and walked over it and Mr. Pelletier
had come over and suggested doing this work b get it in good condition. That
he would take up the grass with a sod machine, put it back, rebuild the moun
till and add clay. We would have to furnish the materials and sand . He furth
said that he would take grass off of the high school field and put on the
wash in the 13-14 yr old field. Further discussion led to a motion by Charlie
Langham to accept this proposal and have him go to work, Larry Thomas
seconded and motion carried unanimously. Pouring the concrete in the dugout
was discussed, this was another project that we haven't had time to do.
Larry said he had some men over here that could do the forms, he said he
will get with Phil on it. Charlie mentioned the tennis courts and could we
Robert to at least blow them off once a week, Phil said that would be no
problem. Larry mentioned that the soccer program would be running thru
Saturday and then we can seed Stimpson. It was decided that overseeding
the outfield would be good for Stimpson.
AI mentioned the articles he has been reading in the paper about Tennis and
that he will get in touch with Howard and get some input from him.
Charlie mentioned that he thought we could use some more security lights
at Volanta. Phil said we had plenty of poles there all we needed to do was
to get lights for them.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
