Al also mentioned the lease agreement that had been adopted by the City
Council Monday night leasing the Young Street Park to the Young Street
Recreation Group. All thought this the best way to proceed.
The minutes were approved as written.
Al mentioned that before anything definite is decided on removing the diving
board that we need to take another look at it. Al, Phil, Richard get with Reba,
The swim meet that was held was discussed and how everything had turned
out real well, that there were a lot of people here from around the area.
The success of the soccer clinic was commented on by Larry Thomas, he
said Roy Patton did a real good job and they had at least 119 kids.
The bills were considered and were approved for payment on motion by
Rae Jackson, seconded by Richard Bass and unanimously carried.
Al asked Phil to get with Aaron and check the lights at the football field,
the scoreboard and ask if the control box could be fixed a better way.
The problem we are having with being able to hear was discussed and a
way to put speakers up on the other side of the field. Rae to ask Grady
how he did it before and get with Aaron to see if any way we can do it again.
The budget was discussed and Al said he was going to get with Richard and
try to have everthing worked out so we could work on it September meeting.
Richard Bass said he had been asked to see if we could give some money to
the high school to pay for the weight room being open this summer. That
we had in the past and his research revealed that several other cities in the
area recreation departments were supporting this program. This had been
brought up before the summer and we had at that time decided we did not
have enought money to sponsor it for this summer. Rae said she did not
think we should pay for it after the fact that she too had been approached
by people who usually attended the arts program that we have sponsored
in the past, and wished us to do it again. Discussion led to Richard putting
in the form of a motion for the Board to agree to pay the coach at the high
school for manning the weight room this summer. There was no second on
the motion, so it died for lack of a second. Richard said he wished that
we consider doing it again when our funds make it possible to do so.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
