at the City Municipal Complex, 161 N Section Street
Present: Al Johnson, Charlie Langham, Rae Jackson, Phil Rutherford
Betty Rivenbark, Secretary
Al, acting as Chairman recognized Roy Langham who was present requesting
several things get done at Young Street. He introduced Robert Williams.
Roy said they needed at least 2 loads of dirt, the lights on the playing field
turned down, a cable put across the front of the property and possibly
some shrubbery and trees put in. Al told him that after their last
request made to have the park transferred to the County the Board voted
to turn the matter over to the City Council for whatever action they
thought was necessary, therefore, the Board at this time does not have
any say so as to the operation of the park. He suggested they might
wish to get with the Mayor and see what the status might be.
The minutes were approved on motion by Charlie Langham, seconded by
Rae Jackson and unanimously carried.
The bills were approved on motion by Rae Jackson, seconded by Charlie
Langham and unanimously carried.
Phil reported on the progress out at the pool. What had been done so
far and what they are still asking us to do.
Al asked Phil about the proposed sprinkler system at Stimpson Field. He
said he had a call from Larry Thomas and that he had not received any
figures yet. Phil said he had been talking with the Mayor about it and that
they would have to do it after the season doses, possibly do one field at
a time, Al said that the association would like to help but they need to
know figures to work towards.
Mike was asked if he had gotten answer from the league on adding $1.00
to the utility bill, whether it was legal or not. He said he had not gotten
a ruling on it.
Al said he had not heard anything from the health department yet, so
everything is still planned to go on as last year.
Phil talked to the Board about the stadium contract that we sign every
year with the high school. He told them that they have 5 home games
and we charge them $300 a year, that our paint alone is costing over $2200.00
Al said he wished to table this until we had a full board present to discuss
this. All agreed this was fine. Along this same line the new sanctioned
soccer program was discussed and that it will probably be a conflict with
the baseball program next spring if both are going to try to use Stimpson
Field. Possible solutions to how we can work this out were discussed.
Rae asked if money was going to be available to run the art program this
year. No one was really sure, but we will check into it.
Mike told the Board that the Mayor wished to meet with them in June.
He asked that they come with a plan as to how they would wish to spend
money if extra revenue is received.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
