HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-20-1989 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met September 20, 1989
at 7:00 p.m. at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street
Present: Chairman, Barney Shull; members Rae Jackson, Don Smith,
Richard Bass, and Al Johnson. Facilities Director Phil Ruther-
ford and Secretary Betty Rivenbark.
Mr. Shull recognized Mr. Charlie Langham and two other gentlemen who
were present to talk about the Dixie Youth wanting to make revisions to the
minor league field. They had met with Phil and he was aware of what
they are wanting to do but questioned putting back up the 4 ft. fence.
He thought that they should put up a 6 ft. fence. Don stated merits of
4 ft. versus 6 ft. They went on to say they had gotten a price from
Mr. Cooper of Baldwin Fence Co. of $4, and that they did not
have money to pay for all of it but wished to pay for half. Whether or
not we had to go out on bids was discussed. Phil said that the bid law
was recently raised to $5,000 so we were all right in accepting this price.
It was the consensus that we would not be getting it any cheaper. Don
Smith moved to allow the Dixie Youth to move this fence and accept
their offer of half of payment , Phil to oversee the project, Al Johnson
seconded and motion carried unanimously. Charlie took time to thank
the Board for their support and help over the years.
Barney had drafted up a letter in response to the letter from the Young
Street group written by Mr. Chester Hunt. He told the Board what it
contained and that in researching the documents he did not find a reversion
clause in the deeds like they thought it contained. The Board wanted to
be sure that we let them know that they had 30 days to respond or we were
going to go ahead with our plans to recommend that they turn it back into
a passive park.
The bills were discussed and Rae Jackson moved to pay them as presented
Don Smith seconded and motion carried unanimously.
'The minutes were approved as written on motion by Al Johnson, seconded
by Don Smith and unanimously carried.
Barney said that he had a call from Edith Callaway and that the Girls
Softball wished to handle Stimpson Field again this year. That they have
done a good job and that they can continue to run it again this year.
Phil brought up that the junior varsity coaches were not coordinating their
practices with Robert, but coming out there when they want to. The
Board told him to get with the coaches and work it out. He further related
the confrontation he had with the school over picking up the paper.
The costs of repairing the ticket booths was discussed and maybe after
football season we could put some plywood over them to keep them from
breaking out the glass.
Al asked Phil to let Aaron know that the scoreboard wasn't working
right. He said he would.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
