Barney recognized Steve Sims, band director at Fairhope High School,
who was present tonight to talk with the Board about the possibility
of building a platform 50 ' long, about 5' high and 4 ' wide at the
football stadium where the band now sits on the South end. Barney
asked him if they are still planning to have the band festival in October
and he said yes. Barney explained to Mr. Sims the idea that he was
trying to get going as far as having the recreation department have a
fun day in the fall coordinated with all the programs, maybe we could
do it with the band. Steve was not opposed to that idea. Barney went on
to explain how when the stadium was built that we got donations from
different people and that possibly we could get donations to do the
platform he is requesting as it will probably run about $2-$3,000.
Don Smith said he would like to see a drawing of what proposed.
Steve said he will contact the parents and see what he can get
donated, then get back with the Board.
Barney welcomed Richard Bass as a new member, as Stanley Fant
had to resign to accept a promotion and move to Montgomery.
Barney explained how the Board ran the recreation programs and
that our efforts now were mostly into maintenance of the facilities.
Barney further went over the events leading up to the public hearing
scheduled for the 19th and what had transpired over the years at
Young Street for Richard's benefit. He asked that the Board contact
different people in the programs to come forward and express how
the programs are conducted. He went on to say how he is going
to handle the operation of the meeting on the 19th.
Al said he had been asked to inquire about paying someone to keep
the weight room open this summer. Rae mentioned that since we did
not have the money she thought we would be unable to do the art
program this summer. Don mentioned that the art program is budgeted,
but since we do not have a monthly statement to look at he was not
for making any decision right now. Betty is to get statement and mail
to the members.
Phil brought up to the board that4dhe health department had made inquiries on
the cooking going on at Stimpson Field and that next year we probably won't
be able to run the concession stand as we have in the past.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
