HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-08-1999 Regular MeetingThe Airport Board of the City of Fairhope met Monday, March 8, 1999, at 8:OOAM at the
City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street
Present: Chairman Sue Mason; members Khim Vira, Andy Huggins, Bill Payne,
Secretary Betty Rivenbark. Bing Miller and Jim Smitherman of Teledyne were also
present.
The minutes of the January 99 meeting were duly approved as written.
It was reported that Mr. Clark has paid up through March 1999. At that time he will be
reminded again of his monthly obligation.
Bill Payne and Sue reported they had been to talk to the Mayor about the buildings at
the airport and he had told them that after the completion of the Founders Park project
that he plans to put some men out there working to get them back in useable condition.
Bing was glad to hear that this is planned.
She asked Bing if there was anything we could do for them and he reported that there
is an awful sewer smell that he has called the sewer department and reported it but
when they came out they could not find anything. Bill said he will get with the Water &
Sewer department and get someone out there to look again, find it.
Sue Mason reported that she has been working with Wayne Smith on getting a bid
package ready to send out for the four parcels of land that are available and could
possibly be built on at the airport. That we should be ready in the next 30 days to mail
them. We have gotten inquiries about building private hangars, three people who
have inquired. She said this will surely find out who is really serious about this.
Sue also told of the City's desire to build a new volunteer fire department at the airport
and that she has walked every inch of the property with Greg Burroughs, the fire chief,
and that they have decided on a place, that it is immediately to the left inside the gate.
She said it will be a 60 X 80 metal building with 3 bays plus office space, like the one
that was built on Thompson Hall Road.
Bill reported on airport paving and said he is still not entirely satisfied with the paving,
he is going to call Frank Farmer of the AL. Dept. of Aviation when the meeting is over.
That the 2"d time is better but still think could be better.
Khim asked about getting core samples, questioned how much weight the runway could
hold. He said he would get in touch with Thompson Engineering to see if we could get
some tests run. All thought at least a 737 could land easily.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
