HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-11-1999 Regular MeetingThe Airport Board of the City of Fair hope met Monday, January 11, 1999 at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street. Present: Chairman Sue Mason; members Jeanette Plikett, Andy Huggins, Robert Calling, Bill Payne Bill Payne presented to the board pictures he had taken of the front building at the airport(the old Roir building) that showed just how bad the disrepair is. Discussion followed on what we need to do to get the ball rolling to make it useable again, that as it is now no one can use it. Sue asked Bill Payne to pursue it further and see if he could get some results. Jeanette said she would go out there with him and look around so she could report to the mayor. Sue said we have paid Kemko to fix these leaks and asked about the termite problem. Bill said that it looked like there still might be termites. Sue said we also have paid a termite company so this should be under control. Jeanette and Bill will get together and come back with report. Bill also reported that the striping work that was done on the runway "stinks". That he and Phil and Frank Farmer went out to inspect the work and discovered how bad it was and that he had talked to Wayne and told him not to pay until we get them back to fix it. Frank Farmer is supposed to be calling the engineer and we are waiting to hear from them. He had some information on joining the Aviation Council of Alabama and told that the yearly fee was $500. Upon discussion it was decided to ask them to come to Fair hope and present us with some information about the organization before to commit this money. Bill will get in touch with them. The minutes were considered and unanimously approved as written. Sue brought up at this time the two groups that have approached us about building private hangars at the airport. Since our last meeting she has talked to Mark Reed and learned that he does not wish to be a part of Westwind I, L.L.C., the group that had a proposal at the last meeting, she said we need to come up with a ground rent figure in order to tell these people what we would charge at the airport. She mentioned at this time that there are two groups interested in the same piece of property at the airport. The board discussed different ways of handling rent for this property and the other available pieces. After much discussion, It was decided that the fair way would be to have a bid process. A motion was made to give Sue Mason the authority to go to the lawyer and purchasing agent and put together a bid package to be put out for the two pieces of property in question to contain a minimum bid of $4,000 annually. Bill Payne seconded motion and it carried unanimously. There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
