Section Street Present: Chairman Barney Shull; members Rae Jackson, Don Smith and Stanley Fant. Also present were Phil Rutherford, Facilities Director, Ed Nelson, Programs Director and Betty Rivenbark, Secretary. The minutes were approved as recorded. Buzz Coiling and Tom Simonsis were present and wished to discuss with the Board a discount for their seniors golf groups. Barney said that although the opening was April 4th and we have been open every day since, the procedures have not been set, but need to be discussed. Barney went on to say he thougFt that it would be possible to have a discount on slow days if a group with a guaranteed number made requests. There again policy and procedures would have to be set by the Council. Don Smith said we should get 2-3 recommendations from the different groups and make recommendations to the Council. Barney showed the members of the Board a copy of the aerial photo of the topo of the golf course. He pointed out different points. Said that this would be a cost of $2,000.00 to Board, but prove invaluable over time. The Board went over the breakdown of the course since opened April 4th. Barney said we would have to make at least $30,000 a month and we are already over that in two weeks operation. The Board talked about the official opening ceremony and a date of June 4th was decided on. Phil discussed with the board the opening of softball at Volanta, this being April 30th. Also, that the 13-14 yr. old league would be using new field at Volanta and not using Stimpson Field. Eddie said he had talked to Margie and everything worked out. Eddie recommended to the Board the hiring of Coach Tyler at a cost of $1,000 to run the weight room. The Board said they would like to see the figures before commiting themselves to this expenditure. Eddie also reported that Glen Yancey of McGill-Toolen wanted to play their game at Fairhope this year. The Board considered the request and decided that our stadium is not up for rent except under extreme emergencies, then we would vote whether or not to let someone use it. It was reported that we had received a letter from Fairhope High School requesting the walkway for the band. Phil to go ahead with this. Phil reported that we are putting in sprinkler system at football field. That we are having to kill at least half of grass to get rid of torpedo grass. That our fellows are working hard to get it all in. That we have hired another man to work with cutting grass and summer programs. The bills were approved on motion by Rae Jackson, seconded by Don Smith and unanimously carried. There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
