it 7:30 p.m. at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street,
airhope, Al.
Present: Chairman Barney Shull; members Rae Jackson, Al Johnson
Don Smith and Stanley Fant. Phil Rutherford, Facilities
Director, Eddie Nelson Programs Director, Mike Ford,
Council Liason and Betty Rivenbark, Secretary
he minutes were considered and approved as written with notation that 50
ectric carts were bought and the Recreation Board had approved 48 electric
id 2 gas in order to observe performance of the gas so as to compare them
it future reference. Don Smith asked if the electricwere as good as the gas
�rformance-wise and was assured they were.
_arry Thomas was present representing the soccer league. He wanted to ask
f the Board would give him permission to go ahead and move the goals at
.he Organic School to the Intermediate School for them to be using. The board
;aw no problem with this, he preferred doing it on a Saturday and Phil said
ie would be glad to get with him when they can arrange it.
Bann Saltz was present to tell the Board that the East. Shore Men's Church
.eague wished to use the fields at Stimpson as they had last year, 3 fields
n Monday night, starting April 1. He further said that they expected about
4 teams altogether. The Board assured him that they saw no problem with
his. He should coordinate his schedule with Eddie and Margie Robinson.
Wilhimena Todd was here tonight representing the Band Club Parents. She had
written a letter to the Board requesting consideration for another set of steps
for band use only. That they were causing quite a bit of congestion when
they come in and out. Maybe put another gate. In discussion the board
asked about the possibility of putting up the portable stands in the curve
of the field for the band's use. Mrs. Todd said that if this could be worked
out she saw nothing wrong with it , it might be an easy solution. She was
asked to secure permission from Mr. Patrick before anything else was done.
She said she would, that last season there were 145 kids in the band.
Richard Bass and Judy Kendrick were here representing Fairhope Youth
Baseball. Richard said that they were holding registration now and that
opening day is April 30th. Richard mentioned several things that need
working on and Phil said he would take care of them before opening.
Richard said he was sure he could get some help from parents to build
2 dugouts at the new 13-14 yr old field. Stanley Fant moved to furnish
the materials for the parents to do the work, Don Smith seconded and motion
carried unanimously. They were told they were free to use the girl's field
this season. Possibly the high school could use the concession stand for
their games.
Jim Reid told the board how well the basketball program was going that they
had 296 kids in the program this year. That they played games all day on
Saturdays.
A John Foster was present asking about the swimming pool and the swim
program. Wanted to know if we had any plans to cover the pool in the near
future. He was told we had long range plans but nothing we can afford to.
do now. He was advised to get in touch with the E.S.S.A. for programs.
Under old business the board discussed how the golf course was coming along.
Phil reported on the tables and chairs he had found. Barney was asked about
the sign and he had shown the Board a picture of how he wanted it and said
he was taking care of it. The Board discussed the discrepancies in the land
on some of the holes at the course. It comes to about an acre all total. The
Board recommended talking to Matt Dial about this land and getting what we
need. Al Johnson moved to recommend purchase of topo of golf course, if
we can get complete one with everything we need, at a cost of $2,000.00. Rae
Jackson seconded and motion carried unanimously.
The bills were approved on motion by Al Johnson, seconded by Rae Jackson
and unanimously carried.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
