HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-16-1987 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met September 16, 1987 at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street at 7:30 p.m. Present: Chairman Barney Shull, members Rae Jackson Don Smith, Al Johnson, and Stanley Fant. Phil Rutherford, Facilities Director was also present. The minutes of the September 2, 1987 meeting were accepted as recorded. Barney recognized Mr. Kenneth Cain who was present to tell the Board that after all expenses the group raising money for the Barney Shull invitational tournament had an access of $399.68. That they would like to turn this over to the Board and that they wished to have it spent on rain shelters on the course if possible. The Board thanked them for this and said they would see that it was designated for that. Eddie had presented his study on use of the field for the baseball/soft- ball program and a preliminary look suggested that other fields could be used by the girls/ladies group, that all not fully utilized. A decision to be made at the next meeting. Under old business the Board brought up the club house for the golf course. Al rescinded his motion approving Buddy Richmond's plans for the building at the golf course; Stanley rescinded his second. The Board wished to go with the plans orginally presented by Barney and voted by all to go with. Buddy Richmond would not agree to go with these plans, so we will make other arrangements. Barney said he would have another prepare plans and have the foundation plans for Phil in the morning. Barney also reported we had over $75,000 in the golf account. He further presented a new drawing showing placement of the equipment shed as a result of Dr. Jones' and Matt Dial's request at the last meeting. Building to be 60' X 40'. He was told to proceed in this direction. Phil reported to the board the request he had received to leave the pool open for another month for use on the weekends. He toid of the number how using it, very few people, and the cost of upkeep. Stanley Fant moved to close the pool and in the future to close the pool after Labor Day or if we leave open they would bear the expense after that time. Don Smith seconded and motion carried unanimously. Phil also reported on the use of the stadium by Shaw High School and asked the Board to name an amount they wished to charge in the future. Rae Jackson moved to charge $500.00 and also provide parking attendants in order to obtain receipts. Don Smith seconded and motion carried unan- imously. The bills were approved for payment on motion by Al Johnson, seconded by Rae Jackson and unanimously carried. There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
