Present: Chairman Barney Shull; members Al Johnson, Rae Jackson, Don Smith and Stanley Fant The minutes of the May 20th meeting were duly approved with correction date being made on the Soccer clinic from July 6-10th. Phyllis Bruce of the Swim Association was recognized. She said everthing was going great at the pool, that the 6th lane really made a difference. That they going to host a C-development group which will be about 300 swimmers on July 8th. She asked about the retainer ring for the 6th lane. That it was never installed and wasn't it part of the bid package. The Board asked the Secretary to mention this to Phil. She said she had talked to Phil today and asked about it. She also asked if we could have extra bleachers for this day. She said they had 85 swimmers on the swim team and all programs working well. The Board thanked her for coming. Under old business, Al brought up the problems we are having at Stimpson Field. That he had games scheduled for last Saturday and had talked with Vaughn Kelley four days straight and reminded him each day and then no one showed up on Saturday to unlock it. That they are not doing what they are suppose to do. Stanley said at this time that he had been approach ed by the band parents about the possibility of them running it for us. Further discussion led to decision to write them a letter stating they are I not doing what their duties are at Stimpson as they contracted to do as well as not having paid money they contracted to pay. Stanley was advised , to talk more with the band parents and if they wanted to come to the next meeting for them to do so. Rae brought up the art program scheduled for this year. She said that in an effort to reach more children the children were sent flyers .home from school before it ended. As a result there had been 300 applications submitted. Now the volunteer group was going to have to increase their teachers from six to twelve and had asked her about the possibility of more money for the program. At this time Stanley brought up that the coach at the high school had approached him about the possibility of opening the weight room at the high school in the morning for the women for another $500 for the second month. Discussion led to a decision that we did not want to do this at this time, maybe next year. As to Rae's request for more money a decision was made and a motion by Stanley Fant to give $500.00 more to this program, Don Smith seconded and motion carried unanimously, making a total of $1,500 allocated. Barney at this time reported on the bids received for the moving of the building from the airport to the golf course, the paving of the road leading into the golf course and the rennovation of the building once moved. The bids(on file in recreation records) were much higher than expected, and it was the decision of the board to reject all bids on moving and rennovation and ask the low bidder on the paving contract if he would go with deleting $41,688.00 out of base bid submitted, making a new price of $57,497.00 for paving. Barney said he would contact Hosea Weaver tomorrow morning and if he agrees will recommend to Council Recreation Board's approval of this bid at lower price, with work to begin as soon as Council approval given. Stanley Fant put in the form of a motion recommending single boulevard for 600 ft. based on unit prices shown and reject moving and rennovation bids. Don Smith seconded and motion carried unanimously. The Board also voted to go with design on new building and have separate buildings for carts and maintenance, with maintenance being centrally located. Don made a recommendation to have cost figures presented at next meeting(7/01) as to what 3 buildings will cost. Tom' s letter was discussed and the Board voted to ask Harry to answer questions as put to the Board. The bills were approved on motion by Al Johnson seconded by Stanley Fant and unanimously carried. There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
