HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-16-1985 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met October 16, 1985 at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street, Fairhope, Al. Present: Barney Shull, Chairman; members Roy Lloyd, Rae Jackson and Don Smith. Phil Rutherford, Facilities Director was also there The minutes of the September 18, 1985 meeting were duly approved on motion by Rae Jackson, seconded by Don Smith. Barney recognized Dorothy Knox, and Mr. and Mrs. Gardner who run the Aaronville Day Care Center in Foley. Barney read a letter from Mrs. Gardner asking that the Recreation Board consider letting them rent the Young Street Recreation Center building to use as a day care. That they now are using a building that belongs to Mr. Chester Hunt, but he has refused to repair it where it will meet state standards and they are at an impasse. After hearing the proposal, Don Smith asked them to bring letters from the community, the agency that would be funding them, health department before we make any final decision. The Board asked Mrs. Gardner if she could work with Mr. Ronnie Gardner who is trying to get some type of program started out there. She said she did not think there would be any problems. Barney interjected that we needed to get in touch with Calvin Hunt before any other arrangements could be made. Roy put in the form of a motion to inform Calvin that his agreement with the City is no longer valid and he would have to vacate the premises. Rae Jackson seconded and motion carried unanimously. Phil is to notify him and have the locks changed. The bills were approved on motion by Don Smith, seconded by Roy Lloyd and unanimously carried. Phil reported to the Board the bids received (telephone poll was made and approval was given to go ahead by Roy Lloyd, Don Smith and Barney Shull for acceptance of low bid which was $12,995.00)on the tractor and that it has been ordered. Barney reported on the Golf Course. He informed the Board that the developers let their option lapse on October 7th. That since that time the Corte family has said they will donate to the City the land to develop a golf course. That they did require that we build the road going to the course, that we will have to survey the land ourselves, we were told that the developers were going to turn over all documents to the city for use. That the Cortes, Barney, Mayor were going to meet with a Don McMillan out of Tifton, Ga. next Mon-Tues. Barney also reported that the Co rtes requested 400 memberships be reserved for them for 5 years. The Council had requested the Board to proceed with planning and make some recommendations. Barney said he did not have the bids for the basketball area yet, 2 bids are lacking. I� Roy brought up the overuse of Stimpson by soccer, after discussion Don suggested getting Eddie to present something to the Board showing how the fields were being utilized, then we can see if there is overcrowding. All agreed this is a good idea. The Board also discussed that no extra money would be used if the Fairhope football team is in the playoffs in fixing up the field.Also, that no purchase orders to be issued without approval from Phil. The budget was discussed and all felt that it should be the same as last year's, (a 4% increase was given to the 2 regular employees) and Roy Lloyd put in the form of a motion recommending this to Council Don Smith seconded and motion carried unanimously. The Board also approved Roy Lloyd's motion to grant the 5 regular employees Christmas Bonus of $50.00 again this year. There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
