HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-25-1998 Special MeetingThe Airport Board of the City of Fairhope met Tuesday, August 25, 1998 at 8:OOAM
in a special meeting at the Fairhope City Hall, 161 N. Section Street
Present: Chairman Sue Mason; members Jeanette Puckett, Bill Payne, Robert
Colling, Secretary, Betty Rivenbark, General Supt. Phil Rutherford
The purpose of this meeting was to discuss an FAA and state grant being offered for
pavement maintenance at the airport which would require the city to pay 5%(90%
from FAA, 5% from State). The Mayor has signed a letter of agreement with the
state and sent the same back and Phil Rutherford was sent to represent the City at
their pre -construction meeting held of August 21, 1998 The letter of agreement said
the airport board would be responsible for $2,235.51 on the paving project but the
striping cost would be ours, that we can also apply for 50% grant of this cost from
the state. Phil reported to the board saying this will be .68 a foot cost. The state
said they will be in touch with us 72 hours before the project and they will need to
shut down the airport for 3 days. That they will cut the shoulders back, put down tar,
and come back for striping. Sue asked if anyone objected to this. She said we
would have to notify Teledyne and tell them to get out necessary NOTAMs. It was
asked about totally shutting down airport and Sue thought that taxiway could
possibly be used for the small airplane traffic that Teledyne might have after
construction hours, but not during construction hours. No one objected and all
thought this a good idea. Bill Payne put in the form of a motion recommending to the
mayor and council that we undertake whatever steps necessary to apply for these
grants. Jeanette Puckett seconded and motion carried unanimously. Sue asked
Bill Payne to head this project for the board, contacting the state and seeing what
necessary forms we have to fill out.
Sue reported that Teledyne still doing good and we are trying to work on known
problems, i.e. leaks. That they are under opinion their lease is up for renewal in
December. Phil reported on price he had gotten for fixing roof but it is way over
what we thought was reasonable, he is still working with KEMKO.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
