HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-20-2024 Fairhope Recreation Board MinutesMinutes of the Fairhope Recreation Board The Fairhope Recreation Board met on Wednesday, March 20th, 2024, at 5:15 p.m. at Recreation Center located at 803 N. Greeno Road in Fairhope, Alabama. Present: Cathy Hudson (Acting President for March meeting only), Pat White, Charlie Langham, Josh Warren, Corey Martin, and Debra Flowers, and Maurice Morrisette. Absent: Jack Burrell, Lisa Atchley, and Scott Berry. The meeting was called to order by Cathy Hudson at 5:15 p.m. The minutes of the February 21st, 2024, meeting minutes were considered and approved on a motion by Josh Warren, seconded by Charlie Langham, none opposed. Guest(s): Cole Wagner, Justin Hammers, Cheryl Corvo, and Paul Williams. Paul Williams formerly introduced himself as the new President of the Tennis Association and thanked the Rec Board for all their hard work. Recreation Updates: Pat White informed the Rec Board of the following: ●Introduced Justin Hammers, the new City Park Ranger. His office will be located at the old Dyess home located in the Flying Creek Nature Preserve, opening this Fall. ●1st Track Meet was held at the Track & Field Complex at Founders Park on March 19th, by FMS, with a large turnout. ●Special Olympics was held at WC Majors Field on March 15th. ●New bleachers were installed last week to the 4 new youth baseball fields. ●The new well at the Fairhope Soccer Complex at Manley is almost complete d. ●New artificial turf tee mats have been installed on the driving range at Quail Creek Golf Course. ●Progress is being made at Quail Creek Golf Course with improving the fairways. Drainage work on the last 9 holes will begin in April and the cart path renovations should begin shortly after the Mayor’s FEEF Tournament on April 5th. ●The outdoor pool at the Rec Center will be opening the week of Spring Break, and then continue to be open on weekends only till Memorial Day. ●Lee Atchison is our new employee in Parks & Rec, and he will be part of the maintenance staff, sharing his time between Founders and the Tennis Center. This is the 1st time since October that we have been fully staffed. ● Fairhope High School Baseball has been in the process of hosting a 3-week Gulf Coast Baseball tournament, with schools from Oklahoma, Tennessee, Illinois, Arkansas, and Alabama. ● Our Park Maintenance Staff relandscaped the entrance to the Vann Saltz Youth Baseball Park in advance of Youth opening Day, which was held on Sunday, March 10th. ● Youth Football currently has 190 kids signed up for the Spring Flag Football Season. 3 divisions, with 6 teams in each division. ● Currently have 3 separate companies that have given us proposals on our Feasibility Study/Architectural Rendering and those will be given to the Mayor soon for her review. Recreation Business: General discussion was had regarding putting a fee structure in place for the Track & Field Complex at Founders Park (lane fees and grass area inside track). General Discussion was had on a timeline to replace the 2 Rec Board Members who recently resigned. Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:47 p.m.
