HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-20-1984 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met June 20, 1984 at the Police Station at 7:30 p.m. Present: Chairman Barney Shull, members Rae Jackson Don Smith, Roy Lloyd. Facilities Director Phil Rutherford and Programs Director Eddie Nelson Barbara Root of the Y.M.C.A. was present with some members of her staff. Barney discussed with her the things the Board had said they would participate with her in at the office at the pool they told her she -- could use. She introduced Patrick Stapleton who would be handling the pool and also explained the day camp program they would be having in Daphne at the Nicholson Center. The bills were considered and approved for payment, on motion by Don Smith seconded by Roy Lloyd. Under old business Barney brought up the building being planned for the municipal stadium area and said he would have the plans at the first of the week and would get them to Phil to go out on bids. It was recommended having the bid opening July 6, 1984 and specify completion by August 20, 1984. Eddie mentioned the problem he was having with trying to fit the day camp into the swimming pool schedule and that next year they needed to take a look at all this before things turned loose with the "Y". Rae reported on the program planned at the elementary school with the puppet making, band instruments and arts and crafts and also reported on the nature trips. She said that things looked very good and that all were excited about it. Roy reported on the baseball camp and that it was a success. It was included for record keeping increasing the amount alloted to Barry Pennington $100 a month expenses making his total salary $1000.for the day camp program. Phil brought up a request he had to add a small gate at the pool. After discussion it was decided that this would not be a good idea. The board voted to give Phil a $300.00 bonus for the extra work he has had to do for the summer, on motion by Roy Lloyd seconded by Don Smith. The Babe Ruth field and the clean-up problem was discussed with a decision being made to cut the lights off if they would not cooperate with us on how we run the program. Eddie mentioned that they had 2 tournaments planned: July 9-l: and 17-20. Phil told the Board about the incident at the pool when the door was kicked in and that they found out who had done it and that they were going to pay for it. There being no further business meeting was duly adjourned.
