Under old business, Barney said he was not through with
the plans on the proposed new recreation building out
at Volanta. Hopefully he would have them by the next meet-
ing.
Barney handed out a brochure he had showing the programs
that the Y was planning for the summer. He asked the
Board how they wished to participate in the rennovation
being planned for the space we provided at the pool for
the director of the Eastern Shore Branch. They responded
they would put in the lights, secure the doors, pay the
telephone, utilities and rent. Barney mentioned that if
they go to the trouble of rennovating that they would
like a firm agreement on the facility. Don Smith put
in the form of a motion telling them they can have the
use of the office for as long as we have a working relation-
ship on the operation of the pool. Roy Lloyd seconded and
motion carried unanimously. It was mentioned that any
signs posted would have to be cleared by Phil, that they
would have use of the dressing rooms by the football field
that they would have 1 key only for the day camp session.
Eddie presented to .the board a summer program run by Barry
Pennington he had a leaflet that he had printed up and
also presented at the same time a program to coincide
that Rae had worked up with Jamie Stanfield on Ecology
Micro Computers, Art and Music, and Clay,Pine Needle Basketr
and Paper Mache' all to be free to the public and to cover
youth groups from 6-15. The Board was well pleased with
the programs planned. Eddie mentioned that if we use
the pool could we plan on hiring one of the life guards
at a cost of $80.00 total to supervise children attending
these programs. No one objected to this cost..
The possibility of using the weight room at the high school
was brought up again in some part of a program. It was put
in the form of a motion g.iVing the Fairhope High School
$2,000.00 specifically for the purchaseof weight equipment
in return for recreation facilities services. Motion was
seconded by Roy Lloyd, and unanimously carried.
The possibility of extending the dugouts was discussed
with everybody in agreement this could be done. Barney
thanked Roy Don and Phil for getting the fields ready
and working so hard.
Phil mentioned the problem he is having with the pool and
someone with the swim team cutting off the water when they
shouldn't, but hopes to get the message to them that they
shouldn't do this.
Al and Eddie brought up the problems they have encountered
with the minor league teams this year and that they thought
that the Board and the head of the league should get together
to discuss rules and policy. Don suggested a meeting next
Wednesday night at 7:30 with them.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
