HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-16-1983 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met
November 16, 1983 at 7:30 p.m. at the Police
Station
Present: Chairman Barney Shull; members
Don Smith, Roy Lloyd and Al Johnson
The minutes of the 19, 1983 meeting were approved
on motion by Roy Lloyd, seconded by Al Johnson.
At this time Barney recognized Howard Threlkeld
Susan Smith and Barney Guest who were present
to talk about the possibility of getting four
new tennis courts at the municipal facility.
They cited incidents where Miss Smith who is
the Tennis Director is having to send students
to other courts to play because the courts are
full and they have to wait so long. They said
that if we had more courts that we would draw
tournaments and that would ultimately bring
revenue into the city by lodging and meals as
well as tournament fees. The Board asked these
people to evaluate the situation and bring us
facts on what the situation really is and if
their is enough data to justify this then we
would consider it.
Al brought up at this time getting the aerial
photos that we requested. The Board felt that
they would make real nice Christmas remembrances
to the Council and high school personnel. Discussion
led to a motion not to exceed $500.00 in the cost
of these photos. Al Johnson moved, and Roy Lloyd
seconded, motion carried unanimously.
A discussion was held on the cost of actually
getting the field ready for each football game
Roy having figures this information to be passed
on to the Mayor and Council. This led into a
discussion of what the school is paying annually
for the use of the stadium and Don Smith moved
to raise the rent to $2,100.00 for next year.
Al Johnson seconded and motion carried unanimously.
Also, the parking will be raised to $1.00 per car.
The condition of the football field was discussed
with Roy to get the groundskeeper at the Grand
Hotel to come and look and see if he can help us
in the discing, to see if we can get rid of the
sunken places.
Under new business the building of a basketball
area at Greeno Park was discussed to be at least
75 X 100 slab and maybe in the future serve as
the ground floor of recreation complex.
The Board voted unanimously to approve a $50.00
Christmas bonus for the six employees of the
Recreation Denartment.
There being no further business, meeting was
duly adjourned.
