HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-18-1983 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope Alabama met on May 18, 1983 at the Police Station at 7:00 p.m. Present: Chairman Barney Shull, members Don Smith, Roy Lloyd Rae Jackson, Al Johnson. Programs Director Eddie Nelson and Facilities Director Phil Rutherford. Roy Lloyd moved for approval of the minutes as written, Don Smith seconded and motion carried unanimously. Don Smith moved to pay the bills as submitted, Roy Lloyd seconded and motion carried unanimously. Joe Sledge was present representing the Young Street group and reported that all was going well at the facility at this time. The scorer's platform at the Babe Ruth field was discussed, with mention being made that the door now there was beginning to rot at the bottom, did we wish to go ahead and replace with metal door at this time or wait. It was decided to wait for a while. It was also discussed closing in the bottom as requested. Further discussion led to a decision to only close in half of bottom we would furnish materials only. The girl's facility was discussed and they are to be told to get with Roy Lloyd about painting scorer's platform and changing roof. Rae Jackson brought up the request from Theatre 98 for the Board to sponsor a two week program at the Civic Center in order for them to hold a class in puppet making. Discussion led to a motion being made for the Recreation Board to sponsor this clinic as requested by Rae Jackson, Roy Lloyd seconded and motion carried unanimously. Eddie brought up that we needed to hire a new coach to work during the summer lining off fields, etc. He further requested to raise the current salary $100.00 beginning the end of May, which would mean he would get $300.00 for two months. Don Smithi put this in the form of a motion, motion carried unanimously Mike Ford came in at this time and reported that he had attendedl' a meeting with the Y.M.C.A. and they had expressed a desire to work with the recreation board and further they were trying to establish a center in Fairhope. Mike was told that we lease the pool to them every year and so far we have been able to work closely with them in all sports activities. There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
