HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-20-1983 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met April 20, 1983 at the Police Station at 7:00 p.m. Present: Barney Shull, Al Johnson, Don Smith, Roy Lloyd Rae Jackson, Programs Director Eddie Nelson, and Facilities Director Phil Rutherford. The minutes of the March 16, 1983 meeting were duly approved on motion by Roy Lloyd seconded by Al Johnson, and unanimousl carried. There were people present representing the Young Street facility and wanting to know what the Board's plans were for it. They were told that the Recreation Board provides facilities only, not equipment or uniforms. That they were responsible for getting programs going and we would support them in any way possible as we have tried time and again to get programs going with no results. Also present were two members of the ecumenical board of the catholic diocese that said that they were interested in using the facilities and would provide a director. That they wished to use it at least two times a week. They Board told them that they were free to use the facility and hoped they would work together with the interested people in the black community in getting programs going. All they were ask to do was keep in touch with the Board. At this time Bob Street, President of the swim team, was recognized and he told the Board that they had set up regis- tration for May 3, that they were going to operate like last year and working with the YMCA to get things ready. Phil re- ported that the pool would be ready by May 2, 1983. The bills were considered and approved on motion by Don Smith seconded by Roy Lloyd and unanimously carried. The scorer's platform being built was discussed. Phil asked the board to consider letting them enclose the bottom to store equipment in. Much discussion led to motion by Roy Lloy to approve purchase of materials to enclose bottom, Al John- son seconded and motion carried unanimously. Along this line Phil mentioned that the girl's softball assoc. wished to put a roof on their scoring platform, and the motion was amended to include materials for this also. Motion carried unanimousl Phil reported that the bleachers are on the way. That the trees came in and they are scheduled to be planted. That because of the move nothing has been done on the exercise fitness trail, all workers are working on City Hall. All remarked how nice Stimp Field looked and acknowledged the hard work and efforts put forth out there. The agreement between Eddie Nelson/Charlie Smith for running Stimpson Field was presented, Don Smith said he had read it recommended it for approval. Al Johnson moved to accept it Roy Lloyed seconded and motion carried unanimously. A discussion was held on the ball hitting an.automobile riding along Morphy. Discussion led to Don Smith moving to pay the deductible only after person provided us with company and agen- name, Al Johnson seconded and motion carried with Roy Lloyd abstaining to vote. Al reported the accident at Stimpson May 1st, and that no help was received by the local ambulance company and that he wished it noted that after half an hour man had to be carried by police car to the hospital and that the streets were clear if ambulance had come. n I There being no further business meeting was duly adjourned. Rae asked all to come May 1 to picnic planned at the beach. The figure shown under the column labeled "Profit" will clearly indicate that there has been a misconception regarding the fact that team entry fees will only cover tournament expenses and a sponsor must have the concession operation to realize a profit for the time and effort spent. USE OF RECREATION FACILITIES CITY OF FAIRHOPE RECREATION BOARD 1. No alcohol is allowed on any City of Fairhope recreation site. 2. No glass or glass containers allowed on any facility. 3. It is the responsibility of the group using a facility to clean this facility at the completion of their use. Failure to do this will result in the group using the facility being billed the cost of cleaning up. If a deposit is required to guarantee cleaning up the de- posit will be forfeited. A deposit will be required to cover guaranteed cleaning for tournaments, political rallies, parties, speeches, etc. 4. The use of the recreation facilities is encouraged but they must be scheduled. No tournament or other such event shall be scheduled before being approved by the Recreation Board. Any excess cost by the City to prepare for such events shall be paid by the users. 5. Due to high cost of electricity the following rules have been set forth: a. Any event requiring lights shall be scheduled no later than Sunday preceding the week of use. b. Practice that requires the use of lights shall be scheduled no later than the preceding Sunday of the week of the practice. Al practices shall be limited to 9:00 p.m. c. The responsibility of turning off.of the lights shall be with the users of the facility and failure to turn off lights shall lead to a charge for excess electricity or denial of use of facilities in the future. d. The above mentioned schedules shall be furnished to the Recreation Board Program Director on a weekly basis. No schedule, no practice... 6. Once a softball or baseball diamond has been prepared for play, no practice will be allowed on this facility. 7. Any damage to a facility shall be the responsibility of the group using this facility. No signs shall be painted on or attached to concession stands that cannot be easily removed at the end of an event. 8. No vehicles of any type will be allowed on the playing fields. This includes bicycles, motor bikes, auto- mobiles, etc. ' 9. Any decorations placed on a facility such as banners, flags, pennants, etc. shall be removed by the user at the end of the event. 11 10. The Recreation Board reserves the right to close any facility at any time for maintenance or preparation.
