HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-16-1983 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met March 16,
1983 at 7:00 p.m. at the Police Station building.
Present: Don Smith, Roy Lloyd, Al Johnson. Also Eddie Nelson
Programs Director and Phil Rutherford Facilities Director
Vann Saltz was present and spoke for the Y.M.C.A. He presented
a letter outlining the Y's proposed use of the municipal pool
this summer. He is requesting opening the pool May 21 and 28
for open swim, and full-time Wednesday, June,l, with open swim
10-5 Mon -Sat, 1-5 Sun. June 13 swimming instructions start
and will last from 9--12. General Admission 1.00 a day with
memberships available. He mentioned he had not gotten with the
swim team yet. Eddie said he would try and find out something.
Patrick Stapleton would be the head lifeguard and they would
have a total of 7 lifeguards. Al Johnson moved to let them
handle the pool as in the past. Roy Lloyd seconded and motion
carried unanimously.
Reverend Jackson came before the Board and told them that he
was leaving on the 25th of this month. He appreciated the
Board working with him.and all they had done to help get the
Young Street facility working. That he realized that the
problem.is with the community in that he can not get anyone
to back programs. That a Henry Daniels was interested in
working with the Board(he did not come in tonight although
he was supposed to). That he had a program to present. The
Board expressed appreciation to Rev. Jackson for his efforts
too, and wished him well.
The Board approved on motion by Roy Lloyd, seconded by Al
Johnson the minutes of Feb.16, 1983 meeting.
The bills were approved on motion by Roy Lloyd, seconded by
Al Johnson and unanimously carried.
Under old business, the exercise trail was discussed.. Phil and
Eddie reported they,had walked./measured it off. That they were
now going to get someone to make the signs, and have something
more to report next meeting.
Phil reported that they were working on the fields, that they
had the sprinkler devices at three fields.
Margie Robinson reported she had set May 7, 1983 as opening
for the Girl's field
The 13, 14, 15 yr old program was discussed -and field useage.
Phil reported Stimpson work that had been done, and that they
had ordered trees.
The question was asked about how we stand on bleachers, Phil
to get prices on getting one more set. Roy Lloyd put this
in the form of a motion going out on bids if necessary, Al
Johnson seconded and motion carried unanimously.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
