HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-19-1983 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met January 19, 1983 at the Police Station at 7:00 p.m. Present: Chairman Barney Shull, members Rae Jackson, Don Smith, Roy Lloyd and Al Johnson The minutes of the December 17, 1982 meeting were approved on motion by Roy Lloyd, seconded by Don Smith and unanimously carried. Robin Hurst, representing the Dixie Youth, spoke to the Board about the possibility of putting advertising on the outside fences at Volanta. After discussion, the Board advised that they wished this only to be a last resort as over the years they have found that these are not maintained. Mr. Hurst thanked the Board for the input and advised that there is a different group involved with the Dixie Youth now and if they were presenting any problems please let them know. Rev. Jackson came forward and reported that he had an exercise class going on, but so far had been unsuccessful in generating any interest in any other programs.down there. He asked about the possibility of having an officials workshop and would Al and Roy work with him if he could get a group together. They said they would. He also asked if the lines could be repainted on the basketball courts and change the locks in the building. He was told that it would be worked on. He mentioned that he would like the Board to consider putting back in a hot water heater down the road, they said they would. The bills were considered and approved on motion by Don Smith seconded by Al Johnson and unanimously carried. Barney reported that there was a good crowd for Howard Threlkel4 reception and he was genuinely pleased. He mentioned he had talked with Susan and the tennis program is going well. Al asked at this time what the progress was on the fitness trait the bicycle stoppers at St. James and where we stood on the scot keeper's box at Volanta. Barney to get with Eddie on the Fitne! Trail, and we were waiting for drawings on the scorekeepers box Al also mentioned the parking problems at Stimpson and what we could do about them and the project of completing the islands ' at Stimpson. Along this line Barney brought up the landscaping that we wanted to do, and the field work that would have to be done before we were ready to play ball this spring. It was de- cided to do the girl's field the last of February, the first of March work on Stimpson and last of March the football field. That all the fields would have to be aeriated. Roy mentioned the high school's request for a second batting cage with them Ifurnishing the netting if we furnish the poles. A discussion was held on the golf course situation. Barney to talk with some people to see what could be done. He mention( that Congressman Edwards had been contacted and there was no matching funds available for a project like this. i There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
