HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-20-1982 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope, Alabama met October 20, 1982 at the Police Station at 7:00 p.m. Present: Barney Shull, Chairman; members Don Smith, Al Johnson, Roy Lloyd and Rae Jackson. Also Facilities Director Phil Rutherford The Board approved the minutes of September 15, 1982 meeting on motion by Roy Lloyd, seconded by Al Johnson. At this time Barney recognized Chip Fellers who was present to talk with the Board about a fitness trail. He presented a pamphlet that set out the size of the trails and the equip- ment needed to complete same. The Board told him that they were in the process of getting their information together on just such a thing, and that he should get with Eddie Nelson as he was the one working on it. He said he would be glad to do that. The bills were considered and approved on motion by Roy Lloyd seconded by Al Johnson. Barney brought up the resignation of Howard Threlkeld and what the Board wished to do at this time. Discussion led to a decision to get with Susan Smith and ask her to meet with the Board to see if she wished to be considered for the job and could do what we needed to be done. Barney to get in touch with her and call a special meeting. The Board also had a letter from the YMCA proposing to use the city tennis courts. They asked that the secretary reply and inform them that we were not interested in this proposal at this time. Barney read a report from Young Street, that said that Rev. Jackson was working on karati program and exercise program and no other activities at this time. Al reported incidents of bicycle riders coming thru the stadium while the football game was in progress. He is to get with the school and have it stopped. The Board considered at this time the budget for the 1982-83 Fiscal Year. Discussion led to a motion by Don Smith, seconded by Roy Lloyd to adopt the same one we had last year. (copy behind minutes) Phil asked the Board to consider donating towards the purchase of bullet proof vests for the Reserve Police. As they are strictly volunteer with no funds available. That they had offers their services at the football games where last year we had pai( for these same services. The Board said they would be glad to help by making this contribution to the Reserve Police and Don Smith moved to spend up to $600.00 for the purchase of these vests. Roy asked if the Board would go along with him setting out some instructions for people wishing to use the facilities. The Board said they had no objections, it would be good. Phil reported that the flail mower was being fixed, that Tyrone had been fired, the estimate from Mr. Cooper on turning the fen( at the Babe Ruth field. The problem with the football field sinking was discussed. It to be looked at and determined what can be done. Don moved to spend up to $6,000 to build the fitness trails proposed,.Phil to get with Eddie and get it going. 0 ie There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
