HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-16-1982 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope, met Wednesday, June 16, 1982 at the Police Station on Section Street, Fairhope Alabama Those present: Barney Shull, Roy Lloyd, Rae Jackson Al Johnson, and Eddie Nelson Programs Director The minutes were duly approved on motion by Roy Lloyd, seconded by Rae Jackson and unanimously carried Jerry Boyington approached the Board about using the park on Volanta July loth from 4-8 p.m.(little league field). The Board after talking with him said they saw no problems with his request, just clear with the Little League people. He remarked that he had already talked with George Lennicx. He thanked the Board and left. Rev. Jackson went over with the Board the things that had been done for the Young St. facility and thanked them, he said he was having trouble getting his committee to- gether and working. Trisha had called to discuss the possibility of having someone work with the younger children on the Fourth of July. Barney had suggested and talked it over with the Board,her contacting Vann Saltz and see if the "Y" wanted to handle this. All felt this was a good idea. Barney reported to the Board that he had started drawings on the press box and came to a halt when he got to the point of how much the Board wished to enlarge and invest. A discussion followed on the priorities of things needed at the facilities. It was decided to go ahead with the pressbox drawings, but also do the restrooms and tennis courts at St. James. Roy put in the form of a motion to do the pressbox, painting, fixing roof and addition not to exceed $2500.00. Roy then moved �,p go out on bids to resurface tennis courts at St. James seconded and motion carried, Roy then moved to go out on bids to erect restroom facilities at the South end of the field. Rae seconded and motion carried. Hopefully to have bid by next meeting. Eddie reported the three tournaments scheduled in July. He also brought up a request the Little League had to redo the Babe Ruth field. The Grand Hotel said they would come in lift the grass, churn up smooth out, fertilize, all we would do was furnish the fertilizer. The only problem brought up was if they mess it up, we are not going to fix it back. Al Johnson moved to allow baseball people to do this field, Eddie and Phil to check procedure, under the supervision of Phil Rutherford, Rae Jackson seconded and motion carried. Eddie also reported the men's softball first-half season ending, they are beginning the second half. He asked about the possibility of moving the bleachers over to the swimming pool by the 22nd as we are going to be hosting a swim tourna- ment. Eddie also asked about a deposit of $50.00 for a soccer clinic to be held lst-2nd week in August. He was told they should pui up a deposit. Eddie asked about the possibility of maybe hiring someone to bE in charge of the Volanta Complex and conduct the clinics, offer lessons. The Board will think about this idea. Eddie also offered for thought the possibility of maybe putting a 3rd story on Stimpson Field. Roy mentioned that Mickey Hudson had asked about getting a second batting cage, and all felt it could not be considered at this time. Meeting was duly adjourned.
