The minutes of the May 19, 1982 meeting were approved as written.
Mr. Pomeroy came before the Board with a request to give golf
lessons, at no expense to the City, at the area out by the municip
pool. He had worked for the Grand Hotel for a number of years
and since retired. He felt like he could generate enough interest
among the public to offer this service to the community. All
thought it would be a good idea. Roy Lloyd moved to allow him
the use of the facility, and he would be working individually but
with the blessing of the Board, Rae Jackson seconded and motion
carried unanimously.
Reverend Jackson came before the Board with a report from Young
Street. He remarked that they did not have a May Day, it did
not work out. That they were having the girl's softball and
exercise classes at the center. That they have purchased an
ice cream machine. He further wanted to know what it would
take to have someone patrol the area as there had been some
harrassment at the field, he wanted to know what it would take
to get the field fixed up for use, if we could put up 2 lights
outside the building and 2 new doors. He was told that we were
going to pull up the posts and get the barbed wire from down
there, also remove the stumps. Al moved to buy two doors, and
contact the guy for stump removal at Young Street facility, Don
Smith seconded and motion carried unanimously.
Don Smith moved to pay bills as presented, Rae Jackson seconded
and motion carried unanimously
Under old business Al asked if the church understood there was
a $50.00 in advance cleanup fee for the use of the stadium.
It will be made clear to them before use.
Eddie reported he had a letter from the Ethics Commission and
that everything was all right, only if Trisha was involved with
a direct vote on the Recreation Board would there be a problem.
Phil reported that the new field was finished, all they were asking
for now was a dugout, bleachers and lights. He also mentioned that
Ann Girdler had been calling him to meet her at the pool about
changing the lanes, but she had been told that they would not be
the right size if changed. Eddie mentioned he had talked with
her and told her to get with Henry Helton, and if he thought what
she was talking about was feasible to get back with us. Phil said
he was going to move the lifeguard stand at Yg. St. to Volanta Poo:
Eddie asked if the sagging roof on the batting cage could be fixed
Also if the softball clinic could be held this year by Mickey Huds
He was told it had been budgeted. Eddie also reported on the runs
planned by the Eastern Shore Pacers for June 12th at the stadium
and July 17th at the bayfront. Roy said that they should be made
to pay a cleanup deposit like everyone else.
Getting two no bicycles allowed signsfor Stimpson Field was discus,
with Phil to get them. Putting up an outside door for storage of
field equipment was discussed, and Al put in the form of a motion
spending up to $200.00 to get this installed, Rae seconded and

the old lights we had taken down from the fields, the Board
said that he could get some offers for these.

YMCA permission to use them for lessons and when we might be able
to resurface them. Eddie said he would get with the Y and straighten
the lesson situation out, and Al was further told that there are
no funds available now to resurface these courts, we need to build
up some capital.
Eddie said he had been approached about having a soccer clinic
at Stimpson in August. After discussion, he was told that the
Babe Ruth field could be used for this if Stimpson was not avail-
able at this time.
The Board moved to pay Phil Rutherford a $300.00 bonus for the
long hours and hard work he has been doing to keep the facilities
running smoothly.

The bills were considered and on motion by Don Smith were
approved for payment, Rae Jackson seconded and motion carried
